The first thing that Jesus teaches us to pray in the Lord’s prayer is “Hallowed be your name.” For many of us, we have a hard time making that the first portion of our prayer. We think it’s a waste of time. We want to rush past the adoration part to get to the supplication part. However, we must understand that adoration is not simply a nice way to start prayer, but the necessary condition of our hearts in order to pray effectively.

Fasting may be one of the most effective tools for change God has given to His people. Through all the pivotal moments in Scripture, God’s people are found fasting. Moses was fasting on Mt. Sinai as he received the ten commandments. The people of God fasted and repented during the exile. Jesus fasted before entering into public ministry. Paul and Barnabas fasted before being commissioned as missionaries, which started the missions movement. As the Lord does something amid his people, he often leads them through a fast.
