TEXT: Matthew 11:16-19
First, many people will reject the Gospel if we are as stern as John the Baptist in our teaching. John the Baptist came out of the wilderness, dressed in rough clothes, eating whatever he could gather in the wasteland, preaching hellfire and brimstone messages, and calling sinners to repentance so as to prepare themselves for the coming Christ. He stayed out of the dens of sin and debauchery. He was not found wearing fine clothes or eating fine cuisine. Society largely rejected his message. They dismissed as demon-possessed. Modern Christians who follow in John’s footsteps by denouncing sin and calling for repentance will also be mocked by society as crazy Bible-thumpers who are out of touch with the world.
