GOSPEL POWER - APRIL 3, 2021 - HOLY SATURDAY

Gospel: Mk 16:1-7

When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother  of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint  him.  And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had  risen, they went to the tomb.  They had been saying to one another,  “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?”  When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large,  had already been rolled back.  As they entered the tomb, they saw  a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and  they were alarmed.  But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed; you are  looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised;  he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. But go, tell his  disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you  will see him, just as he told you.”

REFLECTION

St. Paul regards death as the “wages of sin” (cf. Rom 6:23),  the lot of all human beings, for all are sinners. Jesus,  though sinless, embraced this lot of ours to reveal to us what  God is truly like. God is redeeming love, who wants to restore to us shalom — the fullness of life that comes only from a right relationship  with the Divine. In the Hebrew Scriptures, the restorer of shalom, also  known as redeemer, has to be the closest relative. It is as our brother  that Jesus redeems us and restores to us the possibility of activating  our full potential as children of God. His death in the name of love  is life-generating. And because love is the greatest power of all, Jesus  cannot be held by bonds of death. Resurrection is inevitable. Love  has conquered death!

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, may our faith in your resurrection be our strongest weapon  against the culture of death promoted in our world today. Amen.
