GOSPEL POWER - DECEMBER 3, 2020 - THURSDAY- IST WEEK OF ADVENT
Gospel: Mt 7:21, 24-27
Jesus said to his disciples, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. . . . “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell— and great was its fall!”
REFLECTION
T he words of Jesus are spirit and life (Jn 6:63). They are not simply meant to be heard, but to be lived. Listening to those words puts us in touch with the will of the heavenly Father. But listening remains incomplete without a personal decision that leads to action. Only action translates what has been heard into obedience, which is the outstanding trait of Jesus. Obedience is what makes us Christ-like, and therefore, citizens of God’s Kingdom. Firmly established in God’s domain, no calamity can ruin our dwelling.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, grant that we may not just be passive listeners but active doers of your words. Amen.
