GOSPEL POWER |JUNE 8, 2021 - TUESDAY | 10th Week in Ordinary Time
Gospel: Mt 5: 13 -16
Jesus said to his disciples, “You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”
Reflection
The purpose of light is not achieved until it makes contact with an eye to give it illumination. A lamp burning inside a locked room, with no one to see it, is good for nothing and wastefully consumes fuel. The flavor that salt gives can only be appreciated when it makes contact with the tongue. Salt in a container does not serve its purpose until it is used to season and preserve food. A person who confesses faith, but without manifesting the meaning and ardor of that faith in one’s life and relationships, is comparable to a concealed lamp and to unused salt stored too long and has become tasteless. Only faith that is operative and touches the lives of other people is empowered and capable of glorifying the heavenly Father
Prayer
Lord Jesus, make us attentive to opportunities to witness concretely to our faith and have a beneficial impact on others. Amen
