GOSPEL POWER |MAY 6, 2021 THURSDAY | 5th Week of Easter
Gospel: Jn 15: 9 - 11
Jesus said to his disciples, “As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.”
REFLECTION
In speaking of love, the prevailing mentality in the world is that of scarcity, which made one songwriter lament that, “Love is the only thing that there’s just too little of.” The Gospel of John assures believers that it is not so — for God so loved the world that he offered his only Son for its salvation (cf. Jn 3:16). Love is superabundant but cannot be perceived by hearts that are locked because of fear and indifference. It is the task of believers to sensitize the world to God’s love. But first, believers themselves must rest in the certainty that they are enfolded in the sphere of love that emanates from Jesus and his Father. This is the assurance Jesus gives in today’s Gospel. The secret to abide in that sphere of love is obedience. Believers who remain in the love of Jesus by keeping his commandments become credible when they proclaim that, Love is not scarce. Rather, love is the force that makes the world go round.
PRAYERS
Lord Jesus, help us to spread around us the love that we experience, and thus testify to the world that love is superabundant. Amen
