GOSPEL POWER - NOVEMBER 28, 2020 - 34TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

Gospel: Lk 21:34-36

Jesus said to his disciples, “Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day catch you unexpectedly, like a trap. For it will come upon all who live on the face of the whole earth. 36Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

REFLECTION

Life in this world is a passage into a greater life, our true life. To allow oneself to be unnecessarily detained in the passage is to miss the point of the journey, and this could prove tragic. Neither the fleeting attractions nor the concerns of this world should compromise our journey. We must undertake it decisively with our hearts steadfastly oriented toward our final destination. The journey may be full of perils, but with focused attention, perseverance, and trust in the God who set us on this journey, we are assured of safe arrival.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, keep us always conscious of our status as travelers in transit in this world. Help us to resist all temptations to settle down and miss our final destination. Amen.
