Governed by God

Today is the release of the pilot episode for my new show, Governed by God. In this new podcast, I will be focusing primarily on the topics of civics and government from a Biblical perspective. On today's episode I provide a brief overview of the four God-ordained governments and their relationship to one another.

Additionally, the new email address for the podcast is [email protected]. Please feel free to send me any of your civic/government related questions, and I will be happy to address them in future episodes. Thank you and God bless!

Today was the final episode for Season 2. With Dillon dedicating much of his time moving into his new house, we plan to start up again in a month or so. In the meantime, I went solo this episode, discussing a wide range of topics such as human rights/responsibilities, responding to the 'Rona, and living in a risky world. My goal was to get into a lot of Scripture on some fairly relevant topics, so grab your Bibles and enjoy the show!

Today Dillon and I decided to have a more casual conversation on topics like COVID-19, the Church, and Civil Disobedience. Although we touched on a wide variety of subjects, our goal is to have this be just one of many similar conversations. And even though we both slightly differ on our views regarding the pandemic, our goal is to seek unity in Christ and to show grace to those who disagree. So, please come check out the conversation!

With Dillon unable to join me this week, I decided to do a short Bible study on the passage of Romans 13. What does it mean to submit to the governing authorities? Which ones? What happens if they command us to sin or prohibit us from practicing good works? These are just a few questions that I hope to address on today's episode!

This week Dillon and I join up virtually again to discuss the concept of leadership. More specifically, we provide some commentary on a book we both read titled Extreme Ownership, written by former Navy Seals Jocko Willink and Leif Babin. While it is not an explicitly Christian book, it contains what we might call "extreme Common Grace." These men touch on some key characteristics of leadership that harmonize well with what we see from Scripture. Come check out the conversation!

This week Dillon and I met up via the internet in order to discuss the broad topic of suffering. Is all suffering a result of God's judgment or is it more complicated than that? How should people respond to the suffering and evil in their lives? Does it make a difference whether the suffering is individual or if it is national? While we do try to make application to the current COVID-19 pandemic, our goal is to look at suffering from a broader perspective.

This week Dillon was able to join me for Part II of our discussion of God's Judgment. While last week we considered how God uses natural means to bring judgment upon a nation, today we look at how God's judgment also involves letting people do whatever they want. This is a form of judgment that is not often discussed within the Church, yet it is clearly set forth in Scripture. So please join us as we look at God's word and consider what it means for God to remove His hand of restraint and to give people over to their sin.

With Dillon unable to join me this week, on this episode I began walking through several passages of Scripture that describe God's judgment. While we often think of God's judgment as sudden supernatural events, the Bible actually presents several different forms in which it is delivered. For this episode, I look at the first form of God's judgment: the slow destruction of a nation through natural means.

On this week’s episode we interview Pastor C. R. Wiley, author of the book Man of the House. Pastor Wiley talks about the concept of manhood and what it means to build up a house. He also talks about the concept of marriage and family, and how our culture has deviated from what we see both in Scripture and in antiquity. These are just a few of the topics that we touch on, so please come check out the conversation (as well as Pastor Wiley's book)! You can also learn more by this book, and other writings, by checking out Pastor Wiley's website.

On this week’s episode we interview Chris Becker, who works within the agricultural department of Del Val University, and who specializes in fruit tree production. He helps us to navigate the rather controversial topic of organic foods and genetically modified foods (GMOs). As Christians, we desire to be good stewards of our bodies, our environment, and our finances. Should we therefore pay a bit extra to eat organic foods? Is it wrong to genetically modify foods in order to make them more productive or resilient? Chris helps us tackle these questions on today's episode.
