The Millennium Heights Medical Complex (MHMC) has taken a pivotal step toward advancing healthcare standards by hosting an Accreditation Canada Workshop from February 10 to 14, 2025. This initiative reflects MHMC’s unwavering commitment to continuous improvement in patient care, safety, and service delivery.
The four-day workshop brought together healthcare professionals, administrators, and policy advisors. Through structured training and hands-on exercises, the initiative aims to enhance healthcare delivery in Saint Lucia and reinforce best practices across the sector.
With a symbolic sod-turning ceremony at the Gros Islet Polyclinic, the Ministry of Health, Wellness & Elderly Affairs has officially launched critical infrastructural upgrades as part of its commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Saint Lucia. This initiative marks a major step in transforming the facility into a 24-hour operation, ensuring that residents have continuous access to essential healthcare services.
The planned improvements include the expansion and modernization of the Accident & Emergency Unit, allowing for faster and more efficient patient care. Additionally, new doctors’ offices will be introduced to increase consultation spaces, ensuring a more effective patient flow. The upgrades will also feature a dedicated staff lounge to enhance the comfort and well-being of healthcare professionals.

The Environmental Health Division, in partnership with the Ciceron Development Committee, spearheaded a large-scale community cleanup on February 8 and 9, 2025, targeting mosquito and rat breeding grounds. This proactive initiative mobilized residents, volunteers, and key agencies to tackle poor waste disposal, a major contributor to vector-borne diseases. By clearing high-risk areas of stagnant water and waste buildup, the campaign reinforced the community’s commitment to environmental health and disease prevention. Building on the momentum of the Mosquito Awareness Campaign 2024, the clean-up drive focused on high-risk areas, particularly locations prone to stagnant water accumulation and waste buildup. The Interim Chair of the Ciceron Development Committee underscored the importance of sustaining the progress made through the cleanup initiative.

During this period, all healthcare services at the facility will remain fully operational. The donation of a second specially equipped school bus to the Ministry of Education is expected to expand safe and accessible transportation options for differently abled students. The recent delivery of this vehicle marks the fulfilment of a promise made by the Maria Holder Memorial Trust in 2023, to deliver a second.
The Ministry of Agriculture, in partnership with the FAO and the University of Zamorano, has completed a week-long training on biological pest control. Part of the Climate Smart Agriculture Project, the initiative aims to equip staff with sustainable farming techniques to boost food security and climate resilience in Saint Lucia.
