In a concerted effort to improve women’s health and raise awareness about breast cancer, the Ministry of Health’s Breast Initiative held a successful Health Fair at the La Fargue Wellness Centre. The event, which coincided with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, provided free breast screenings, pap smears, cholesterol checks, and essential health education to the residents of La Fargue and surrounding areas.
The initiative’s primary goal was to emphasize the importance of early detection through regular screenings, proper self-examinations and hands-on demonstrations empowering women to take proactive steps in monitoring their health.

The Saint Lucia Air and Sea Port Authority (SLASPA), in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Wellness & Elderly Affairs, successfully hosted its second annual "Walk 4 Miles" event on Sunday, October 6, 2024. The initiative, themed “Saving Lives, One Step at a Time,” brought together participants from across Saint Lucia for a powerful morning of physical activity and community support aimed at promoting healthy living and raising funds for the Faces of Cancer Society.
The Walk 4 Miles event, first launched in 2023 as part of SLASPA's 40th-anniversary celebrations, offers a one-of-a-kind health-focused experience on the Hewanorra International Airport runway. Through partnerships with organizations like the Ministry of Health, SLASPA continues to expand the event's impact, encouraging more people to step up and contribute towards the journey.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs has taken decisive action to improve healthcare services at St. Jude’s Hospital, following an increased demand for medical attention in the Admissions and Emergency Room departments. In response, the Ministry has deployed additional medical staff to meet the growing needs of the community and to ensure that quality care is provided efficiently.
Effective Saturday, October 19, 2024, the Ministry has engaged three (3) additional physicians and six (6) nurses to support the hospital’s operations. This strategic move is designed to alleviate pressure on the hospital’s existing staff and to better serve the patients who rely on St. Jude’s Hospital for timely medical care.
This additional staffing initiative reflects the Ministry’s broader goal of improving healthcare access and delivery across the island. In addition to the enhancements at St. Jude’s, the Ministry is actively addressing human resource challenges at the Owen King European Union (OKEU) Hospital. The government has committed funds to hire more staff at both hospitals, further strengthening healthcare capacity at key medical facilities.
