Efforts at ensuring that the St. Jude Hospital is adequately equipped to respond to the health needs of the people in the south of the island are underway following the recent handover of hospital beds, oxygen concentrators, pharmaceuticals, cardiac monitors, lab reagents and consumables to the hospital.
The handover of items was made possible by the Project Implementation Unit within the Ministry of Health through the Contingent Emergency Response Component CERC of the Health Systems Strengthening Project HSSP.

The government’s policy decision to implement a Health and Security Levy of 2.5 percent on select goods and services has the public and key stakeholders requesting clarification and information on the details of its implementation. In response, the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has deployed officers to numerous VAT-registered entities to clarify how the Levy is to be applied.

Staff of the Ti-Rocher (Castries) Wellness Centre and the Bureau of Health Education, recently engaged with expectant and nursing mothers in a breastfeeding education and sensitization session.
The Aug. 21 session followed two similar meetings at the Bexon and Vieux-Fort Wellness Centres in observance of Breastfeeding Awareness Month, where participants were instructed on the benefits of breast milk to both mother and infant and the proper techniques of breastfeeding.

The World Health Organization (WHO), from January to July 2023, recorded over three million cases of dengue fever and over 1,300 deaths in the region of the Americas. Within the region, Saint Lucia’s neighboring isle, Martinique, issued a dengue alert, while Guyana, another Caribbean territory, has already recorded 11 deaths due to dengue fever.
In Saint Lucia, to date, 14 confirmed cases of dengue fever have been recorded on island.

In a demonstration of enduring diplomatic relations and international cooperation, the Government of Saint Lucia has received a supply of fertilizer from the Kingdom of Morocco. This cooperative gesture provided annually, aims to address soil fertility challenges and elevate crop production across the nation.
A consignment of 3975 bags of fertilizer was handed over at the La Caye Inland Reception Distribution Center (IRDC) on August 16, 2023.

The Department of Fisheries and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have again partnered on the ongoing "Coast Fish Project," aimed at strengthening the sustainable use and management of coastal fisheries resources in CARICOM countries. The project achieved a significant milestone with the conclusion of a comprehensive five-day seminar held in Saint Lucia from August 14 to 18, targeting the enhancement of capabilities of fisheries statisticians from the project's target countries.
