During Attorney General nominee Todd Blanche's confirmation hearing, Senator Mazie Hirono opened by asking whether he had ever requested sexual favors, committed sexual harassment, or sexually assaulted anyone. Blanche answered "no" to each question.
The exchange quickly drew criticism from the White House and conservative commentators, who called the questioning political theater rather than meaningful vetting.
Is this responsible oversight—or just another scripted Senate performance?
