Coming to the Lord’s Table

“...this do ye...” (1 Corinthians 11:25)

Coming to the Lord’s Table is a privilege purchased for us at the cross of Calvary. This is a privilege afforded only to those who know Christ as Savior.

Coming to the Lord’s Table is a joy as we rejoice in the relationship which we have with God through Christ.

Coming to the Lord’s Table is an opportunity to offer up to God an offering of praise and thanksgiving.

Coming to the Lord’s Table is an obligation. Some have the idea that the choice is theirs as to whether they will participate. It is not! We are commanded to come.

Some would excuse themselves for absenting the Lord’s Table because there is sin in their lives. While it is most unwise and unhealthy to remember the sacrifice for sin with unconfessed sin, the obligation remains. The answer is to deal with the sin which hinders and then come to God’s Table in forgiveness and obedience.

To fail to come is to disobey. It is to dishonor the Lord who died that we may come

From the moment sinned entered into the world, suffering, pain and loss became a very real part of life. No doubt you have faced seasons of pain when you felt like you were going to be crushed under it’s weight. In those moments, true comfort is both needed and long for. We have wonderful promises and examples throughout Scripture assuring us of God’s comfort. One of the ways that God fulfills His promise to comfort us is through the comfort of other believers. Let’s consider how we can be channels of God’s comfort to those around us.

Sooner or later, every Christian will face a difficult question: What do I do when someone I respected for their faith fails? Whether it is a pastor, ministry leader, friend, or family member, the betrayal of someone we trusted can leave us discouraged, confused, and even shaken. In John 13, the disciples experienced that very moment when Judas—the man who had walked beside them for three years—was revealed as Christ's betrayer. Yet instead of allowing His followers to become consumed with Judas' failure, Jesus redirected their attention to what mattered most: God's unchanging plan, their own personal walk with Him, and the mission He had called them to fulfill. This passage gives us a biblical framework for responding when trusted people fail while remaining faithful to Christ ourselves.

Have you ever noticed how that those that deny or disregard the truth of God’s Word are oftentimes very unhappy people? There is a very solid connection between joy and truth. The Philippian believers were being afflicted by a group of false teachers. Paul urged them to choose to have joy in their relationship with Christ and and warned to avoid those who were teaching error. This message is so relevant and necessary for every believer today. Do you have a bio? A bio is a short biographical profile on someone. It may be a sentence or a list of adjectives, but it tells an important story—what a person is all about. As Paul continued to write the epistle to the Philippian believers, he pens his bio, “For me to live is Christ and to die is gain.” His whole life is summed up in eleven words. He surrounded those words with personal testimony and powerful encouragement for the Philippian believers. He wanted them to also live lives that were all about Jesus Christ and His Gospel. Let’s receive this inspired admonition for our lives today.

Are you familiar with trolling? It is defined as making a deliberately offensive or provocative online post with the aim of upsetting someone or eliciting an angry response from them. We live in a culture that is ready to criticize, teardown and sarcastically provoke others for fun. The Bible teaches us that we have a responsibility to edify—to build up with words and actions. Paul wrote to the Thessalonian believers and said, “Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11) As he begins his epistle to the Philippian church, he practiced what he had preached. He edified the Philippians with gratitude for their partnership, confirmation of God’s work in their lives and his heartfelt prays for them. As we pursue knowing Christ, may we also edify one another.
