During the final week of Christ’s ministry before the crucifixion, He was traveling from Bethany to Bethany with his Disciples. He was hungry and spotted a fig tree. From a distance it looked like it should have figs, but when Jesus got closer, it was barren. It had leaves, but no figs. He cursed it.
It was the sad picture of a fruitless nation that had all the blessings of God, but provides no life-giving blessings to others.
As they were leaving the city of Jerusalem the next morning, Peter noticed that the cursed fig tree was completely withered. When he asked Christ about it, He gave a simple lesson.
