God has been teaching our church family that the great commission of Jesus Christ is for each of us. We are responsible to take the Gospel to the world in this generation. Our path is through Kettering to the uttermost parts of the earth. If this is to be accomplished, we must all participate in the going. To this end, let's consider a simple principle of life with powerful application to our personal participation in taking the Good News to the world.

There are many wonderful examples of mothers in the Bible that God has given to us for our benefit. There is the sweet surrender of Mary the mother of Jesus (Luke 1:38), the strong resolve of Jael who defeated the Assyrian general (Judges 4) and the steadfast faith of the widow of Zarephath who fed Elijah not knowing where she would get more food for herself and her son (1 Kings 17). However, there is one woman that stands our from many others because of her worship and prayer. Her name is Hannah. Hannah navigated crushing grief and vindictive irritation through prayer and worship. We can do the same.

Jesus has fed the multitude with just five loves and tow fish near the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Perceiving that the religious leaders were about to make a move to take Him, Jesus sent His disciples on a head to Capernaum while He went up into a mountain to be alone. As the night progressed a storm arose on the Sea and the disciples thought they were in danger. He went to them by walking on the Sea and rescues them. Some of the multitude came looking for Jesus in Capernaum because of the bread that He had given. While they were looking for physical bread, He offered them the Bread of Life—Himself.

Our world suggests that primary purpose of parenting is to raise children who can function in society as adults and make positive contributions to it. Many parents prioritize achieving financial independence and career satisfaction as goals for their children. While achieving these goals may be good, biblically minded parents will have a higher goal for their children. Let’s consider the life of Lois, Eunice and Timothy in the Bible and gain a higher goal as parents and as a church family.

As we consider Biblical principles for families, it is easy to focus the season of life that includes raising children. However, the God’s Word gives us many illustrations about the grand parenting and what we would call the retirement season of life. Until we stand before God and give an account of our service to Him, we can and should thrive in our relationship with Him and our responsibility to Him. God instituted the home in Genesis chapter two. He created man and woman, brought them together in marriage and instructed them to be fruitful and multiply. We all are in different stages and have ad different experiences when it comes to the home and family. You may be a child, a teenager, a single adult, a single mom, a widow or widower, a divorcee, an empty-nester, a grandparent or still in the midst of raising children. In reality, we all need to know what God has to say about the family. So, as we begin this series of messages and workshops, let’s consider the lives and families of Abraham and Lot. Their choices and goals resulted in two very different life and family outcomes. May God help us to learn from their examples so that our families can be enriched.
