The First Century Philadelphia city sat on the main highway to the East on what was later called “The Silk Road” to India and China. Philadelphia means “City of Brotherly Love.” A Philadelphia Church takes the Great Commission of Christ seriously to share the Love of Christ with the whole world as did the First Century Church.

In our present day, as we read and apply Christ’s word to the Church of Philadelphia, know that this Church is the Church of all the Seven Churches that is “the model church,” the Church we must follow and imitate through prayer, obedience and the Holy Spirit.

Sardis means “Escape” – God calls this Church to “escape” worldly living and “wake up” to their spiritual needs. Twice in its history, the city of Sardis had been overcome by invading armies when guards fell asleep at their post. The Holy Spirit says “Be watchful!” (3:2) “Watch, lest I come like a thief.” (3:3)
