Jeremiah’s Heartache
Jeremiah remembered the good rule of King Josiah.
Two Themes
The stubbornness and incurable sinfulness of the people.
The tragic fate that is about to befall the people.
The People ask “Why?”
The people’s hearts were so cold that they couldn’t understand their condition.
God indicts them for their idolatry.
The Tragedy of a Failed Harvest
The people had lost their chance to avoid spiritual famine.
They had bypassed numerous opportunities to repent and return to God.
Three Questions
There was a balm for the people’s wound—repentance—but they refused to apply it.
There was a Physician who could heal their sickness, but they refused to consult Him.
The Balm of Brokenness
Broken over our own sin.
Broken over the sin of those we love.
Broken over the sin that surrounds us.
There IS a Balm in Gilead
Sometimes I feel discouraged, and think my work's in vain,
but then the Holy Spirit revives my soul again.
There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole.
There is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin-sick soul.
Sing praises to the Lord, O you His saints,
and give thanks to His holy name.
For His anger is but for a moment,
and His favor is for a lifetime.
Weeping may tarry for the night,
but joy comes with the morning.
