The most profound and effective memorial of any kind is the Lord's Supper.

The Baptist Faith and Message says:

The Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members of the church, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming.

Communion is so significant because of the following characteristics:

It’s Interactive. Communion involves all five of the senses. Paul calls the Lord ’s Supper, “a participation” in the body and blood of Christ (1 Corinthians 10:16).

It’s Symbolic. The unleavened bread symbolizes that Jesus had no sin. The juice is blood-colored, reminding us Jesus’s blood was poured out to cleanse us of our sins.

It’s Portable. It’s easily made available wherever a local church assembles.

It’s Permanent. The Communion memorial has lasted for nearly 2,000 years and will continue to be practiced in eternity.

It’s Profound. There is something deeply spiritual that occurs when we participate in the Lord’s Supper with the right spirit.
