This Mother’s Day we look at the rich young ruler. This is one of the few encounters with Christ that is recorded in Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Only Mark records that the man came running to Jesus, an evidence of his youth. Luke tells us that the young man was a ruler of the Jews, the same term used of Nicodemus in John 3:1. Only Mark adds the tender words, “Then Jesus beholding him loved him” (Mark 10:21).
