On his second missionary journey, Paul visited the cities of Thessalonica, Berea, and Athens. Visiting the synagogues of each city, he shared the gospel of the death and resurrection of Christ. In these places, he faced adversities, was encouraged, his teachings were verified in the light of the Scriptures, and he took advantage of the opportunities to proclaim the gospel, especially in the city of Athens by preaching at the Areopagus. His example, and that of the believers in these cities, inspires us to endure adversities, deepen our study of the Scriptures, and seize the opportunities to share the gospel without fear.

God invites us to join with Him on the mission that He has prepared for us in Christ. When we do, He actively guides us through His Spirit, His Word, His power, and His people. While the world can try to dilute God's message of the gospel, God graciously shares His gift of salvation with all who believe in the one true savior, Jesus.

Even though the grace of God can be scandalous at times, it is worth a fight and ultimately unites us!

God's power is made perfect in weakness

highlights the church’s responsibility to send ambassadors to spread God’s kingdom where the gospel has not yet reached. Using the church at Antioch as a model—diverse in nationality, gifts, and social classes—it emphasizes how the early church aligned their hearts to hear God’s voice through fasting and prayer, resulting in the Holy Spirit calling Paul and Barnabas to be set apart for the work of preaching, making disciples, and planting churches.
