As members of the Body of Christ, we are told to 'pray without ceasing' (1Thess. 5:17). If there was ever a need for prayer, it surely is now. To date, 2.5+ million people have contracted this terrible virus worldwide with total deaths listed at 178,000+. This virus has brought the earth to a virtual standstill leaving world economies devastated. For what do we pray? Because of the magnitude, it can be overwhelming for believers. But, not to worry as the indwelling Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 3:16) intimately knows our heartfelt concerns [even when we don't know how to express them] and will communicate each (Rom. 8:26,27) to the throne of grace in heaven (Heb. 4:16). Continue to pray, knowing that God is always there to help us. Stay tuned.

It is clear the 12 did NOT preach what Paul called 'my gospel' (Rom. 2:16, 16:25; 2Tim. 2:8), as Jesus kept it hidden from them (Lk. 18:34) because of Satan (1Cor. 2:8). Then, what did they preach? They preached the fulfillment of God's prophetic promises to Israel (Rom. 15:8), the gospel of the earthly kingdom of heaven (Mt. 4:23; 10:5-7), that Jesus was the promised Messiah (Mt. 16:16), saving those who believed on His name [Person/Messiahship](Jn. 1:12; 20:31), NOT on His finished work [still was a secret]. That was truly good news to Israel, but Christ superseded His earthly ministry with that of His heavenly ministry as He has conquered sin and death for all who believe (2Cor. 5:19-21). The devil cannot undue that which Christ has secured for us, but as 'god of this world' [Satan], he keeps unbelievers' minds blinded to the truth (2Cor. 4:3,4). Stay tuned.

Though this pandemic has drastically changed our lives, God's truth remains the same. Many Christians continue to believe the Body of Christ began in the Gospels, but that can not be so. Nearing the end of His ministry as they journeyed toward Jerusalem, the 12 we're clueless as to Christ's upcoming demise (Lk. 18:31-34). As late as Sunday morning after His resurrection, they remained oblivious (Jn. 20:9). Why? It was all part of God's plan so Satan would NOT find out it's real meaning until after the fact (1Cor. 2:8). This gospel was kept hidden in God until it could be safely revealed as part of the age of Grace (Eph. 3:2,9). Then what did Jesus and the 12 preach for 3+yrs.?

Those on the front line of this pandemic need to be recognized for their heroism by all of us. Not only physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and lab technicians, but those who clean and disinfect hospitals of this menace, are placing their lives in harm's way. Masks, gloves, and gowns [PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT] are indispensable for these soldiers on the front lines. So to with soldiers for Christ who serve on the spiritual front lines. We are told to 'put on' (Eph. 6:12): truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, and the Word of God (Eph. 6:14-17). We can no more enter into a spiritual fight with Satan without our armour than those serving on the front lines against this deadly Coronavirus can without theirs. We thank the country for supplying theirs. We thank God for supplying ours. Stay tuned.

Up until now, staying home and studying the Bible has been good advice during COVID-19, but the believer must carefully discern the Book of James. Written to the 12 tribes of Israel (James 1:1), some of its doctrine and practical application will differ from that of Paul's epistles to the Church. For instance, like Jews who were saved for the earthly kingdom, we also are tempted [tested] of Satan, not God (Jas. 1:13), which is a trans-dispensational truth. However works (Jas. 2:24) plays no part in our salvation (Eph. 2:8,9). We agree that the right prayers from the saints are important and effective (Jas. 5:16b), but we do not believe 'the prayer of faith shall save the sick' (Jas. 5:15a) in every case now like it did then, or we would not have 37,000+ Americans deaths. Those supernatural gifts to early church believers passed away (1Cor. 13:18) with the completion of the Word of God (1Cor. 13:9,10). Today during times like these we are to pray, do everything we can [seek medical care for COVID-19] and give it to God (Phil. 4:6,7). Stay tuned.

Several well-known T.V. preachers are using passages from the PSALMS to give comfort during this pandemic, but that can be problematic because of the conditional relationship God had with Israel at that time. When they obeyed, God blessed them (Deut. 28:1,2); when they disobeyed, He cursed them (Deut. 28:15). Is that what we want? No. Today, during this age of Grace, we have a new, unconditional relationship with Christ, who is 'not imputing their trespasses unto them [us]' (2Cor. 5:19). After the cross, every sin committed by the believer [past, present, future] has been forgiven by our Lord (Col. 2:13). How many sins on our slate? NONE. We're in a much better place NOW than THEN. Why regress?

Recently, I interacted with someone at the mailbox who said her pastor is telling his congregation to pray that God stops this virus as quickly as He started it. Really? That must mean her pastor believes God is sending His wrath as punishment on an evil world. Others have said that about other pandemics including AIDS, but that method rarely works. Look at the tribulation [Book of Revelation] when God does pour out His wrath on an unbelieving world (Rev. 16:8,9). No today God is dispersing His Grace (Eph. 3:1,2) to both Jew & Gentiles (Rom. 1:16,17). But, this age will one day end and no one knows when (1Thess. 4:16-18), and then His wrath begins (2Thess. 2:1-12). Why chance it? This is the perfect day to be saved (1Cor. 15:1-4), the day of your salvation (1Cor. 6:2). Stay tuned.

A sign at the entrance of our hospital says, NO INPATIENT VISITORS ALLOWED. Sadly, many loved one across this country who contract and die of COVID-19 will do so without family and friends by their side, but they do not have to be alone. Scripture tells us during the Gospel period, when Lazarus died, he was lovely carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom (Lk. 16:22). Paul gives us a further update to tell us the moment we depart this earth in death, we are immediately present with the Lord in heaven (2Cor.5:8). For those who are saved by simple faith in Christ's finished work (1Cor. 15:1-4), Christ is with us in life and in death. We are never alone (1Cor. 1:27). Share these comforting Bible truths with your loved ones now, just in case they get sick from this dreaded virus.

Why did we suspend having church? We did so because the government charged us to do so and their power to do so comes from God (Rom. 13:1-4). It is the same reason we pay taxes and obey the laws of the land (Lk.20:25). To resist their counsel [social distancing/avoiding crowds] is tantamount to receiving the condemnation of God. We stayed home because the federal and state authorities advised us it was the safest course of action for a brief period. When would we NOT obey the government? When they exert unreasonable, excessive political power, usurping our basic civil rights under the 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, and violating our God given right to worship (Acts. 5:29). We pray that day never comes. Stay tuned.
