Our usual view if human life is that, after we hit our prime, it's all downhill until we die. The Bible, by contrast, promises a fantastic, physical future for everyone who trusts Jesus. In other words, for Christians, our best years are still to come.

A crucial question we must ask ourselves everyday is, 'What is God saying to me in Christ today?' A second crucial question is, 'What am I going to do about it?' The Bible is clear that Jesus is faithful to save those who are his (see Hebrews 3:6). But it's also clear that if we fail to take God's Word seriously each day, we're in danger of missing out on our place in heaven.

It's a new year, and it may better, or worse, than last year. What we do know, however, is that one day God will make all things new. This perspective will help us to face the new year with peace, joy and hope.

Isaiah 52-53 is a well-known passage that shows us another side of the Super Servant, only this time he is suffering, humiliated and dehumanised. This is the LORD's judgement on sin, but amazingly, the Servant is bearing it in our place.
