This week we will have another of our "Artillery Sermons", this time as part of our Revival and Reformation Summit. This one is inspired by John Knox, whom God used - among other good men - to turn the entire nation of Scotland from being repressed under the tyranny of godless Catholicism to become a Christian nation, almost overnight. It was a miracle, and it could happen again - here, and now.

This week Paul completes his theme of the importance of the apostles as influencers in our lives. It's a very delicate subject, which Paul communicates masterfully - masterfully since he has to walk the knife's edge of explaining himself over every other influencer, while not coming off as self-centered. But more deeply, he is getting at a matter that the trajectory of your life turns on.

This week we come to the point of Paul's argument, which is really all about his 'style.' One of the clearest signs of worldliness is that we confuse outward style with inward substance. Not that the two are unrelated. But we may assume that outward style means inward substance, when it is just an artificial veneer. The substance is Christ, who is risen and raises the dead.

This week we come to one of the most famous but often misapplied passages. It is misapplied when we immediately put ourselves in the shoes of Paul and his friends. But this gives us too much credit, at least at first. We are first meant to put ourselves in the shoes of the Corinthians. Why does Paul went them to understand these truths? He wants them to see that the messengers are like no other, because the message they bring - and its influence - is unlike any other.
