On this day, Transfiguration Sunday, we read of Jesus' revelation to his disciples in glory. The Rev. Kirsten Baer shares that God called his disciples to stop what they were doing and just be in Jesus' presence. We too are called to sit in His presence and see ourselves through His eyes, so that we can then rise up and live in joy instead of fear. 

The way God calls us to live throughout the Sermon on the Mount seems a bit crazy. But as our Lord, He knows this is best for us and this brings out the best in us. Fr. Tim explains that this is our purpose and who we were created to be. 

The Sermon on the Mount calls us into a deeper relationship with God and with each other. Our relationships are important and they should embody the Kingdom of God. The Rev. Kirsten Baer explains what those relationships should look like. 

 

Jesus calls us the salt and light of the world. This is our identity. Father Tim eplains how this identity can look different for each of us when it remains rooted in God's grace and love. Also, that our differences shouldn't cause us to compete with one another to determine who is "right" and who is "wrong," but should allow us to compliment one another as we are all doing God's work.

Many times we misunderstand The Beatitudes, found in Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, as to-do list that helps us gain God's favor. Instead, as Rev. Kirsten Baer explains, The Beatitudes reorient us toward God's Kingdom, to see the world His way.

Jesus' call to follow him is not one of guilt and shame that we often think of when we hear the words "repent" and "evangelism."
