Sermon on 05.5.24 by Pastor Tom Biang. While our God is compassionate, forgiving, and slow to anger, He doesn't simply overlook evil. He has set His laws for the good of mankind and those that deliberately break them will experience the just punishment that comes from their disobedience. But even in His justice, He shows His mercy by holding each individual personally accountable before Him.

Sermon on 04.28.24 by Andrew Bovenmyer. Our God shows his graciousness toward us by being willing to forgive sins of all kinds and degrees. He does not hold a grudge or demand sacrifices but has given his Son Jesus Christ to be the payment for all of our sins, so that we might be forgiven. Because of this forgiveness, we can stand freely before him.

Sermon on 04.21.24 by Pastor Tom Biang. God’s nature is one of committed love toward His people. His Steadfast Love (Hesed) speaks to his unwavering covenant love, faithfulness, and strength toward those He has chosen. Even though He disciplines those He loves when they go astray, He will by no means fail on His end of the covenant relationship with us.

He does not look down on our human condition with disdain, disgust, or disappointment, but He is moved by his mercies to show grace to us. He reveals himself as “el” a word people in ancient times used this term to represent the power and majesty of their gods. But our God surpasses them all in His great power. No power of earth or hell can prevent God from accomplishing his Redemptive work in this world.

Often we hear people confused as they read the scriptures, finding the old testament God to be harsh and angry, but Jesus in the new testament seems loving and forgiving. But God reveals himself as eternal and unchanging, the one who was, is, and will always be the same. We will see that the Father, Son, and Spirit have been working the same plan of redemption from the time before Creation, through the cross and until the coming kingdom.

Leading up to Exodus 34 we see a pattern of the Israelites sinning and turning away from God, culminating in the rebellious golden calf incident. Moses intercedes and appeals to God's character to not destroy the people but to relent and preserve them as a people for His redemption. On the Holy Mountain, God reveals Himself to Moses. In this section of Scripture, God gives us one of the most concise descriptions of His character in the entire Old Testament. It is the section most requoted by the old testament and for good reason. We will take a look at why this was so important to Israel to remember, and why it is important for us today.
