MAIN IDEA: God cannot be contained by our theology.

SHORT SUMMARY: Job knew his defense, but he couldn’t know the totality of God – his nature, his love, or his perspective. Job’s defense was one of ticking off specifics of his obedience, goodness, and righteousness. But he wouldn’t hear from God until he stopped defending, stopped talking, and stopped promoting himself. God will answer. God does answer. But God wouldn’t speak while Job was still talking.

SHORT SUMMARY: Job, after suffering overwhelming losses in his life and bad advice from friends, takes a searching and fearless personal inventory. He looks back on his life, and then faces his present condition, acknowledging the fullness of his suffering.

MAIN IDEA: Are you putting God in a box?

SHORT SUMMARY: Job’s friends were convinced his problems were a result of his own sin and wanted to help him understand that and confess what he’d done. Their pride made knowledge and information the goal, and compassion was hard to find. Grace was not mentioned or granted, mercy was withheld, and judgment covered Job and only added to his misery.

MAIN IDEA: Unwavering faith will not eliminate the pain, will not stop the questions but will give you the strength to endure and persevere.

SHORT SUMMARY: Job had it all and lost everything, except his faith. In all this loss, he held onto his God and praised his name. Praised him! Not for the great suffering, but for knowing God was with him through it all and would be there still.

MAIN IDEA: Reorder Your Financial World: Give, Save, Live . . .

SHORT SUMMARY: This ME-FIRST approach shuts God out. Worse, it is offensive because we end up offering God and others our leftovers. But that doesn’t stop us from asking God to provide, bless, provide work, sell houses, tuition, etc. We want him involved . . . as a helper. Not honoring.

MAIN IDEA: Discontentment is Fueled by Awareness. It is Bridled When You Turn Your Attention from What You Want to What Others Need. Once Bridled, The Appetite Diminishes.

SHORT SUMMARY: Godliness with contentment brings great gain—real gain. The more you have, the more difficult this is to get a handle on. Discontentment is bridled when you turn your attention from what you don’t have to what others need.

SHORT SUMMARY: There are essentially two ways to upgrade your standard of living. One is you save and invest and work your way up. And the other is using debt. Because again, with your signature, with filling out a form, you can immediately live a higher standard of living. One system is fast; one system is slow. One system brings peace and the other brings woe. One is fast, one is slow, one brings peace, and the other brings woe.

MAIN IDEA: OUR FINANCIAL OBJECTIVE SHOULD BE TO HONOR GOD . . . WITH HIS STUFF.

SHORT SUMMARY: Everything comes from God, and we have given God only what comes from His hand. If everything belongs to, comes from, and is distributed by God, then our objective should be to HONOR God with everything we manage while on this earth. HONOR GOD.

MAIN IDEA: YOU CAN’T FOLLOW JESUS AND REMAIN OUT OF BALANCE FINANCIALLY.

SHORT SUMMARY: Anybody who is out of balance proactively financially is also out of balance in his relationship with his heavenly Father. Specifically, as a Christian, let us say it this way: We can’t be a follower of Jesus Christ and stay out of balance and mishandle our personal finances.

SHORT SUMMARY: We will all face challenges in our life. God did not promise everything would be easy, but He did promise that He would always be with us. When we face struggles, they can either make us bitter or better. What has God been teaching you through this COVID-19 time? Maybe you are facing some big struggles or maybe you are in a good place right now. Either way, will you use this time to grow deeper and stronger in your faith in Jesus? God is doing something in your life that is bigger than you can see. Stay faithful! God is with you and for you. God loves you!
