Sermon Questions: John Week 2 – (September 24, 2023)
Main Point: Those who know Jesus joyfully point others to know Him.
Questions:
1. What impacted you most from this week’s message? What challenged you or encouraged you?
2. What do you know about John the Baptist? What do these verses reveal about his character and the focus of his life and ministry? What can Christians learn from his example?
3. Read John 1:19-28. What questions did the religious leaders ask John the Baptist? What did
their questions reveal about who they thought John might be? How did John’s answers reflect
what he understood about his purpose?
4. What was John the Baptist called to do? How did his work prepare people for Jesus?
5. Read John 1:29-34. What is the significance of John the Baptist’s statement, “Look, the Lamb
of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” How did this statement this connect to Passover
and the sacrificial system? What does it tell us about Jesus?
6. What did John say about Jesus’ baptism? Why was this significant for him? (Read Matthew
3:13-17 for more on Jesus’ baptism)
7. Read John 1:35-51. Why did John point his disciples to Jesus? After spending time with
Jesus, what did Andrew do? What did Jesus say to Peter?
8. How does the account of Philip and Nathanael differ from the account of Andrew and Peter?
What was Nathanael’s response to Philip’s claims? How did Nathanael’s interaction with Jesus
change his opinion of Jesus?
9. In these accounts, followers of Jesus pointed others to follow Him. All followers of Jesus are
called to do the same thing. How can you point other people to Jesus this week?
10. What is one specific thing you can do this week to put into practice what you learned in this
message?
