The waiting is over.

In Acts 2, the promise Jesus gave His disciples is fulfilled as the Holy Spirit is poured out at Pentecost. But this moment is about far more than wind, fire, and miraculous languages. Pentecost marks a decisive step in God’s plan of salvation.

In this episode of Jerusalem to Rome, we explore the Feast of Weeks, the harvest setting of Pentecost, the biblical imagery of wind and fire, the significance of the Spirit resting on God’s people, and the international crowd gathered in Jerusalem.

Most importantly, we consider how Pentecost fits into the larger gospel story. The risen and exalted Jesus pours out the Holy Spirit so that redeemed people can be renewed, transformed toward Christlikeness, and empowered to carry His witness into the world.

The gospel does not end at the empty tomb.

The promise has arrived. The Spirit has come. The work of new creation has begun.

What do you do when God has given you a promise, but you haven’t yet seen its fulfillment?

After watching Jesus ascend into heaven, the disciples return to Jerusalem and wait for the promised Holy Spirit. But their waiting is anything but passive. They gather together, pray, search the Scriptures, address the vacancy left by Judas, and prepare themselves for the mission Jesus has given them.

In this episode of Jerusalem to Rome, we explore the cultural background behind a “Sabbath day’s journey,” Peter’s use of Psalms 69 and 109, the significance of restoring the Twelve, and why the apostles had to be eyewitnesses of the resurrection.

Along the way, we discover an important lesson for our own seasons of uncertainty: waiting on God is not the same thing as doing nothing.

The disciples didn’t know what Pentecost would look like or when the promise would be fulfilled. They simply remained faithful to what Jesus had already told them.

They weren’t preserving a memory.

They were preparing for a mission.

In the opening message of our new series, Do You See Him?, we turn to Mark 6:1–6a and Jesus’ return to His hometown of Nazareth.

The people there knew His family, His background, and His trade. They thought they knew exactly who Jesus was. But their familiarity became a barrier to faith. They were astonished by His wisdom and His works, yet they could not see beyond the Jesus they thought they already knew.

In “The Jesus You Think You Know,” we consider a challenging question: Is it possible to know a great deal about Jesus and still fail to truly see Him?

This message explores the danger of allowing assumptions, familiarity, and personal expectations to shape our view of Christ. Mark invites us to see Jesus not as we imagine Him to be, but as He reveals Himself in Scripture—and then to decide how we will respond.

In Episode 2 of Jerusalem to Rome, we continue through Acts 1:6–11 and come to one of the most important passages in the entire book.

The disciples want to know when Jesus will restore the kingdom. Instead of giving them a timetable, Jesus gives them a mission: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses…”

We explore what it means to be empowered by the Holy Spirit, why Acts 1:8 becomes the roadmap for the rest of Acts, and how the gospel moves outward from Jerusalem, to Judea and Samaria, and ultimately to the ends of the earth.

But we also spend time with an event Christians sometimes move past too quickly—the Ascension of Jesus. By connecting Acts 1 with Daniel 7, we see that Jesus is not simply leaving His disciples. The risen Son of Man is ascending to His rightful place as the reigning King, having first gone to the cross to make salvation available to the world.

And then comes the promise: “This same Jesus…will come back.”

We may not know when He will return, but we know exactly what we are called to do until He does.

In Week Five of Who Can This Be?, we come to one of the most powerful moments in Mark’s Gospel. Jairus had come to Jesus believing He could heal his daughter—but before Jesus arrived, the devastating word came: “Your daughter is dead.”

It appeared that Jesus was too late.

But Jesus responds with a word that reaches beyond Jairus to every place where fear threatens faith: “Do not be afraid; only believe.”

In Mark 5:35–43, Jesus enters the house, takes the little girl by the hand, and speaks tenderly: “Talitha, cumi”—“Little girl, I say to you, arise.” And death itself obeys Him.

Throughout this series, Mark has been answering the question, Who can this be? We have seen Jesus as Lord of Creation, Conqueror of Darkness, Restorer of Humanity, and Compassionate Healer. Now Mark takes us even further.

Jesus is the Lord of Life.

This message reminds us that death is real, grief is real, and loss is painful—but in the presence of Jesus, death does not have the final word. The One who raised Jairus’s daughter would Himself rise from the grave, giving us the hope that because He lives, death will one day be defeated forever.

In Week 4 of the series Who Can This Be?, Pastor Bob Moseley explores Mark 5:21–34 and the story of a woman who had suffered for twelve years. She had exhausted her resources, endured isolation, and nearly lost hope. But when she heard about Jesus, she reached for Him in faith.
