Is Jesus (The Good Shepherd) actually YOUR shepherd? Is he the one leading, guiding, providing, and protecting you through all of life?

Every name has a story, and every story has a purpose. As we look at David’s mighty men, we get a beautiful picture of what a "Not So Ordinary Life" actually looks like.

When we get caught in our sin, or when the Holy Spirit convicts us, how do we respond? What does real repentance look like? There are four things David shows us here that can help us when we are confronted with our own sin.

2 Samuel chapter 12 looks at three ways God moves us out of captivity and toward freedom: First, God moves us toward freedom by confronting our sin. Second, God moves us toward freedom by exposing our sin so we can see it clearly. When we ignore God's commands, we act as if we know better than Him and reject His provision. We need to spend time in God's word and let it convict us so we can see our sin clearly and confess it.
Finally, God's grace prevails over our sin. When David owned his sin and confessed, "I have sinned against the Lord," Nathan immediately replied, "The Lord has also put away your sin; you shall not die." David deserved death under the law, but God put his sin away. Ultimately, Jesus bore the wrath meant for us on the cross so that we could be made alive in Him. Salvation is a gift of grace to be received, not earned.

2 Samuel 7, David experiences what happens when you have a good plan but then soon realize that God has a better plan.

Psalm 40, we get a look into David’s thoughts. We look at the different types of pits we face and who God is in light of them.

David brings the ark of God back to the center of God’s people. It leads him to have a right view of who God is and enables him to worship him completely.

How do we live in the sweet spot of God’s will for our lives? David’s life is far from perfect, but he gives us some insight and understanding into walking this path.

What do we do when we are wronged? Treated unfairly? David models for us in 1 Samuel 24 how to respond in moments like these, while we also look to the one who did it better, King Jesus.
