You may still love your family deeply and still give them whatever is left after work, pressure, and responsibility get your best.
In this Extra Shot, Cody digs deeper into how good things can quietly become misordered things. Luke 10 shows Martha serving faithfully while being pulled in too many directions, and that same tension can show up in our homes when responsibility starts taking the place of presence.
This episode looks at the difference between being busy and being distracted, why love is more than good intentions, and how our patterns of attention teach the people closest to us what actually matters most.
The issue is not simply time management.
It is whether responsibility has started replacing love.
Scripture: Luke 10:38–42; Mark 12:28–31

What happens when the people you love start getting whatever time and attention are left over?
In this Cup of Grace in the Grind, Cody looks at the kind of relational drift that rarely begins with conflict or indifference. It usually happens quietly — while we are busy doing good things, carrying real responsibilities, serving people, and responding to whatever feels most urgent.
Jesus calls us to love God and love people, but Scripture also shows that love must be rightly ordered. This episode explores how work, ministry, pressure, and constant availability can slowly displace the relationships God has already entrusted to us — our spouse, children, family, friendships, and church family.
The issue is not simply time management.
It is whether our patterns of attention actually reflect what we say matters most.
Sometimes faithfulness looks like slowing down long enough to love the people right in front of us.
Scripture: Mark 12:28–31; Luke 10; 1 Timothy 5:8; 1 Timothy 3; Haggai 1; 1 John

Not every burden you are carrying is yours to carry.
In this Extra Shot, Cody digs deeper into the difference between responsibility and false responsibility. Some weight comes from genuine obedience. Other weight comes from fear, control, people-pleasing, or the belief that everything will fall apart if we are not the one holding it together.
This episode asks how to tell the difference, why good intentions can still become unhealthy burdens, and what it looks like to trust God enough to release what He never actually assigned to you.
Responsibility matters.
But carrying everything is not faithfulness.
Scripture: Galatians 6:2–5; Matthew 11:28–30; Psalm 55:22

What if burnout is not always the result of doing bad things — but of carrying good things God never asked you to carry?
In this Cup of Grace in the Grind, Cody looks at the quieter kind of burnout: the kind that feels like responsibility, maturity, and even faithfulness. We keep showing up, saying yes, staying available, and carrying more because somewhere along the way we started believing that faithfulness meant being limitless.
Jesus does not tell the weary to stop caring. He invites them to take His yoke. This episode explores the difference between faithful responsibility and false responsibility, why anxious toil can masquerade as diligence, and how rest becomes an act of trust rather than a reward for finally getting everything done.
You were never meant to hold everything together.
Faithfulness is carrying what God has actually given you — and trusting Him with the rest.
Scripture: Matthew 11:28–30; Psalm 127:2; Hebrews 4; Philippians 2:12–13

Work is a good gift.
It becomes dangerous when it starts asking for the kind of devotion that belongs to God.
In this Extra Shot, Cody digs deeper into the line between faithful work and idolatry. The problem is not ambition, responsibility, or caring about what you do. The problem comes when work becomes the place you look for identity, security, significance, or worth.
This episode looks at how good things can become ruling things, how to recognize when work has moved from stewardship to worship, and why rest, limits, and dependence on God can expose what we really trust.
Work matters.
It just cannot be your god.
Scripture: Exodus 20:3; Matthew 6:24; Colossians 3:23; Psalm 127:1–2

What happens when productivity stops being something you do and starts becoming how you measure your worth?
In this Cup of Grace in the Grind, Cody looks at the quiet way work, achievement, usefulness, and output can become identity. We may say our worth is found in Christ, but it is easy to feel most valuable when we are accomplishing something, needed by someone, or checking another box.
This episode explores the difference between faithful work and identity built on performance, why productivity makes a terrible savior, and how Scripture frees us to work hard without asking our work to tell us who we are.
You can be productive without being defined by production.
Your value was never meant to rise and fall with your output.
Scripture: Ephesians 2:10; Colossians 3:23–24; Luke 10:38–42; Psalm 139:13–14

Waiting on God does not mean doing nothing.
In this Extra Shot, Cody digs deeper into the difference between passive delay and faithful waiting. Scripture calls us to trust God’s timing, but it also calls us to remain obedient, present, and faithful in the season we are already in.
This episode looks at what it means to wait without forcing an outcome, how impatience can tempt us to manufacture movement, and why faithfulness in the present matters even when the future is unclear.
Waiting is not wasted time.
It is still a place where obedience matters.
Scripture: Psalm 37:7; Isaiah 40:31; Romans 8:25; James 5:7–8

What if waiting is not the real problem?
In this Cup of Grace in the Grind, Cody looks at what happens when God’s timing refuses to cooperate with ours. Waiting has a way of exposing what we actually trust, how tightly we hold our plans, and how quickly we start measuring God’s faithfulness by whether He moves on our schedule.
This episode explores the difference between passive delay and faithful waiting, why impatience can reveal a deeper struggle with control, and how Scripture calls us to trust God even when the next step is unclear.
The problem is not always that God is making us wait.
Sometimes the problem is what the waiting reveals in us.
Scripture: Psalm 27:14; Isaiah 40:31; Lamentations 3:25–26; Romans 8:25

Most of us did not invent our definition of success. We inherited it.
In this Extra Shot, Cody digs deeper into the question behind The Blueprint We Never Questioned: Who taught you what a good, responsible, successful life is supposed to look like?
Family expectations, culture, church habits, money, education, and experience all shape the way we think. Some of those influences are wise. Some are not. The danger comes when inherited assumptions start carrying the authority of Scripture without ever being tested by it.
This episode asks where your blueprint came from, what parts of it are actually biblical, and whether you are willing to let Scripture challenge even the assumptions that feel normal.
Familiar does not always mean faithful.
Scripture: Romans 12:2; Proverbs 14:12; Colossians 2:8

You do not really find out what your faith is standing on when life is steady.
You find out when something shakes.
In this Extra Shot, Cody asks a harder version of the question raised in The Blueprint We Never Questioned: What is my faith actually resting on?
Sometimes we lean on trusted people until their failure shakes more than our confidence. Sometimes we lean on outcomes, quietly assuming that if we work hard, obey God, and make wise choices, life should turn out a certain way.
Scripture points us somewhere more stable.
Jesus says storms expose foundations. Job trusted God when the life he knew collapsed. And Paul reminds us that the only foundation strong enough to carry the full weight of our faith is Jesus Christ.
The shaking does not create the foundation.
It reveals it.
Scripture: Matthew 7:24–27; Job 13:15; 1 Corinthians 3:11

Does the way we’re living actually match what Scripture says?
Grace in the Grind: Biblical Faith for Everyday Life is a conversation built over a cup —…
We take serious biblical truth and bring it into the places where faith actually gets lived: work, marriage, family, church, success, disappointment, suffering, calling, relationships, and all the ordinary stuff that has a way of getting complicated fast.
Through honest stories, biblical teaching, real conversation, and the occasional caffeinated detour, Cody keeps coming back to that same question — not to stir up outrage, but to help us examine what we believe, how we live, and where we may have confused what is familiar with what is biblical.
That means questioning assumptions. Challenging familiar patterns. Admitting when something we’ve called normal may not actually line up with Scripture.
Grace in the Grind is about letting Scripture correct us, letting grace meet us where we’ve failed, and learning to follow Christ more faithfully in the middle of real life.
Each twelve-episode season is a “Pot,” with each episode serving as a “Cup.” Shorter Extra Shot episodes dig deeper into the theology, harder questions, and the parts of the conversation we probably could have left alone — but didn’t.
So pour the coffee, open your Bible, and pull up a chair.
