In the closing section of Jesus' instruction to His disciples, He continues to encourage and exhort them to make decisions in light of the big picture, in view of eternity. If we're going to be faithful disciples of Christ, He must have priority in our lives.

Big Idea: Our ultimate love and loyalty belong to Jesus, above the family or self.

Jesus has warned the twelve that all will reject them because of their allegiance to Him. After hearing such a warning, fear of opposition and rejection would naturally overtake the twelve, so Jesus addresses the issue of fear next. His answer to their fears is not, "Stop fearing!" Instead, Jesus deals with their value system because you fear what you value most.

Big Idea: The cure for fear of man is valuing Christ and His mission.

As Jesus prepares His disciples to go out, He prepares them for what's to come. Jesus doesn't want the twelve to be caught off guard. His words are clear, direct, and very sobering - "You will be rejected because of Me!"

Now that the twelve ordinary men are called and equipped for the mission, Jesus gives them specific instructions which ultimately focus on His person and work. Missions belong to the Lord!
