We wonder why it was necessary to kill Saul’s seven descendants for something done years earlier, related to a covenant that was 400 years old. Big Idea: Sin, however old, has consequences. Only when justice is served and atonement made can it be forgiven—and God has done both for you in Christ.

In 2 Samuel 16, David is on the run once again. The first time, he fled from his predecessor, Saul, who sought to take his life. Now, he is running from his own son, Absalom. Big Idea: When confronted with unjust criticism or the consequences of sin, trust God to mercifully sustain you.

Grace is the heartbeat of this letter. Grace is the center of our lives. The Christian life is all grace.

Big Idea: The Christian life is all grace—now and always—so stand firm in it and extend it.

Big Idea: Faithful shepherds are called to lead God’s flock in a loving manner, looking to the Chief Shepherd for their eternal reward.
