Episode 200 -Graeme Currie with Guest Host Keith Mcdonald

I am Graeme Currie from Western Australia author of the best seller The Fasting Highway it can be found on Amazon in both Kindle and Paperback. 
I am a person who lost 60 kg (132 pounds) and successfully kept it off. I will tell you exactly how I did it, and what it is like to live an intermittent fasting lifestyle. I cover my journey, about an ordinary Australian bloke who has found a way to lose weight that is sustainable. Along the way, I found some amazing health benefits as well. I interview dozens of others, who wanted to try it for themselves and have had similar success.

Health & Fitness

Kelly Schupp is a 46-year-old mechanical engineer and mom of two living in Louisiana, one of the worst states for people who LOVE to eat!  The food there is well known for being irresistible, but not the healthiest.  Kelly grew up on an agricultural farm (primarily rice and crawfish) with a Cajun great-grandmother and mother who were fabulous cooks.  Food was everywhere, all the time, absolutely engrained in the culture she grew up in.
 
Kelly was overweight at a young age and struggled her whole life to lose weight and keep it off.  Her mom was also overweight and had them try every diet out there: Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, the “Zone” diet, low carb, ketogenic, paleo, etc.  Unfortunately, nothing ever worked long-term.
 Years went by and diets and workout fads came and went, but her weight remained the same.  She hovered nearly 200 lbs for nearly 20 years.  It was her body’s setpoint and
nothing she did ever changed it, even after she cleaned her diet up significantly to keep insulin resistance and diabetes at bay (which her mother and father both had).  Then, in 2018, Kelly had surgery, and her weight started to climb rapidly, topping out at around 215 lbs.
 
Kelly started an 8-week “body transformation” program, weightlifting 4-5x’s/week and eating like a bodybuilder.  She stuck to the program, logging everything she ate and did – and gained 3 lbs.  Her doctors scratched their heads and then offered to test her metabolism with a CO2 measurement.  Surprisingly, Kelly’s estimated basal
metabolic rate of 1500 kcal was off by 500 kcal!  The test proved that she only burned 1,000 kcal/day at rest, which meant 3 meals/day would be nearly impossible for her.
 
Kelly had read Gin Stephens’ book and was curious about fasting.  Her doctors agreed to let her try it.  In December
In 2022, she started with a 16:8 protocol, eventually settling on OMAD as it proved the easiest to manage as she travelled often for work and was rarely hungry in the evenings.
 
Kelly lost 60 lbs in the span of a year and is maintaining a 50 lb loss from her highest weight with more flexibility in
her eating window. Most days, she continues to do an 18:6, usually eating one meal + a small, high-protein snack before closing her window.  She understands the importance of clean fasting and sticks to water and/or black coffee during her fasts.  Fasting has finally given Kelly control over her body!.

Episode 225 Kelly Schupp -A life of weight issues helped by finding intermittent fasting. An inspring story from Louisiana

Cindy Hallett is retired from the US Air Force and Lives in Cheyenne, Wyoming, in the USA, with her husband and family. In her first year of living an intermittent fasting lifestyle, she has lost an incredible fifty pounds (24kg).
Cindy has had some trials and tribulations with her weight, as you will hear in this episode, where she shares openly about her struggles and finding an answer with intermittent fasting.
Cindy has had a major health scare in recent times, and she describes how she was fortunate to have lost weight before that occurred.
Cindy enjoys retired life playing guitar and singing at her local church.

Episode 224 Cindy Hallett- A loss of fifty pounds 24 Kg in the first twelve months of living an intermittent fasting lifestyle. Surviving a major health scare along the way.

Rachel Awad is an American university administrator
who is living in Egypt, and has been living in the Middle East for over 30 years. She has been overweight for most of her life. In 2008 Rachel (who is only 5’3”) reached her all-time highest weight of close to 300lbs. She managed to lose about 40 lbs with a popular commercial weight loss program (about calorie restriction). She eventually started regaining the weight she lost. When
she was close to her starting weight again, Rachel learned about Intermittent Fasting and Michael Moseley’s 5:2 plan. This was in 2014. She followed that for a few years, and was successful in losing weight.  In 2017, after reading Jason Fung’s The Obesity Code and Gin Stephen’s book Delay, Don’t Deny, she moved to a daily intermittent fasting approach and most importantly, to clean fasting. 
 
Rachel became a huge proponent of IF, guiding many
friends to explore fasting, and becoming a moderator on some very large IF groups on FB. This is where she first met Graeme, and then read “The Fasting Highway” about his own IF journey. She has been an active member of The Fasting Highway FB group since its early days.
 
This is the 3rd time that Rachel has been a guest on the TFH podcast, previously in Episodes 6 and 152. She discusses her own journey with IF, how ADF can be a
very helpful tool when used correctly and for the right reasons, and the importance of knowing what’s in your IF toolbox.

Episode 223 Rachel Awad- An experienced faster shares her journey. We talk protocols and ADF the right and wrong reasons to do it.

I live with my husband and college freshman son in Lake
Dallas, TX. We are the proud parents to adorable pet chickens and two precious chihuahuas! I am blessed with the most amazing career imaginable as a wedding and portrait photographer. Life is very busy, and we’re immersed in a constant celebration of food and fun!  I grew up in a large, boisterous and endlessly fun Hispanic family, and we celebrated life with great food and music. I developed a deep passion for cooking and good wholesome food early on and have since considered myself an OG FOODIE!  My passions are hiking with my dogs, kayaking and swimming and anything that keeps me in nature.  I just celebrated my 19th month of Intermittent Fasting, and have lost 60 lbs, gained 22 lbs, reversed type 2 diabetes, reduced my cholesterol, healed my body, eliminated my inflammation, improved my gums, eyes, and overall health, and tried every modification of IF imaginable!  OMAD 23:1 is my preferred protocol and how I feel my absolute best!! I am 100% certain I will ALWAYS live an IF life.
