We hear much today about role models. To society, a role model is a person whose behavior, attitudes, and successes are held as a standard to be admired and imitated by others. As we today celebrate Fathers, we need look no further than God's Word to see what He expects of Fathers as they fulfill their role in the lives of others.

The first 5 books of the Old Testament are called the Books of the Law. These books contain the fundamental and foundational laws, covenants, and history of Israel. In today's passage Jesus says that He came to fulfill the law, not to destroy it. What is the current day believer's relationship to the law? Are we merely following an Old Testament rule book, or does Christ have more in mind?

Salt is a preservative. It can prevent decay and deterioration. In foods, salt brings out flavor and enhances natural sweetness. Light dispels darkness and allows us to see things clearly. In today's message we are reminded that as followers of Christ we are to be salt and light in the world. As salt we hinder the decay of moral values, and add the flavor of love, joy, peace and all of the fruit of the Spirit to a needy world. As light we shine the truth of God's Word to a world covered by spiritual darkness.

Today's section of the Beatitudes is about being a peacemaker. What is a peacemaker? Is it just staying out of trouble? Is it not rocking the boat? Or is it breaking cycles of conflict through action and being active agents of peace rather than passive observers. After today's teaching, you decide.

If the Bible were merely a book of "do's and don'ts" then we would only be responsible for watching our "P's & Q's." But life in Christ is about more than "what we do." When Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden, the very first recorded question that God asked was "Where are you?" This lets us know that God isn't just concerned with our actions- He's concerned with our hearts.

Today we consider the fifth of the Beatitudes spoken by Jesus during His Sermon on the Mount. Showing mercy isn't just feeling sorry for someone, it's actively showing compassion, forgiveness, and kindness to others. And those who do that also receive the same from God.

On this day that we set aside a special time to honor and celebrate Mothers, we get our example from God Himself. God's love and care for Moms is seen throughout Scripture and He gives us a template and a blueprint to follow.

What is spiritual righteousness? In today's message Jesus tells us to hunger for it.
