In this episode, Judith dedicated the interview to her Nanny Willows. They had a great relationship, and Judith based herself on how she was treated as a child. She also shares the fond memories, and fun had while visiting her grandmother. When her daughter went into labour, Judith slept in her car for three days, waiting for her granddaughter’s birth. As a result, she was there at the birth and was able to say silent prayers for her in the labour suite. Her granddaughter has acquired the love of animals like Judith, and they share lots of time feeding and caring for them.

In this episode, Audrey shares that she was excited to be a grandmother, and it was just a natural progression from being a mother. She had special times with one of her grandmother’s in Jamaica, including combing her soft, long grey hair. Audrey believes that her mother and grandmother were the role models that influenced her as a mother and grandmother. Being a grandparent to Audrey is being a role model. She tries very hard not to transfer her fears onto her grandchildren. There’s very little that she would not do with her grandchildren, and she’s looking forward to taking them for a walk.

Margaret is grandmother of teenage children. She shares how over time the role has changed, comparing herself to that when she visited her grandmother. Margaret also talks about the need to be adaptable to the change in your grandchildren as they grow up. Happily, she talks about fun times had by her and Michael with her grandchildren.

In this episode, Grace shares her special relationship with her Grandma Peddy and how it influenced her as a grandmother. Her grandmother encouraged her to wake every day at 3 am to pray, something Grace still does. Grace openly shared stories of events she did with her grandmother and her grandchildren. One of her granddaughters would regularly visit on a Friday when she resided in the UK. Sadly, because of where we are now globally, Grace has been unable to see them for a year, but they often have video calls. Grace talks about the indescribable love that she has for her grandchildren and that she would happily swim in a river with them. Her advice to other grandmothers is to love their grandchildren, spend time with them and makes memories.

In this episode Carol shares that she was brought up by her grandmother and how that influenced how her as a grandmother herself. Carol openly shares some emotional and funny stories. She talks about how the lockdown has kept her away from her grandchildren and how she’s looking forward to seeing them all soon.

Pam shares how she was at the birth of her grandson and the impact it had on her. She didn’t want to be called Grandmother because it sounded old and opted for Nannie after his birth. Pam admits that she’s a soft grandmother, which she feels she might need to change as gets older. She shares how her grandson has developed a love for Bob Marley videos and his granddad’s hats - his ‘mini me’. During the recording Pam became emotional when sharing how the early loss of her own mother impacted her and influenced her the drive to become the grandmother she is.

In this episode Monica discloses that she based herself on her mother. Her mother gave up her job to look after her grandchildren- it was not a role her mother felt comfortable giving to anyone else. Monica shares some of the Caribbean customs passed down to her, which she does and shares with her grandchildren. During the interview, Monica openly talks about how she protect her grandchildren, which becomes evident when Monica shares how she supported her granddaughter when bullied. After having several discussions and feeling unsupported by the school and the parents of the bullying child, Monica thought she had no choice but to address the situation herself. Her actions worked, and the bullying stopped. Monica and her grandchildren have a great relationship and have had several holidays together. Monica believes that being a grandmother is an opportunity to set boundaries and teach her grandchildren good morals.

In this episode Debbie shares how her experiences of being a grandchild. She shares how her grandparents recognised her natural creative talents. Het grandmother nurtured it by providing books, writing implements and a safe place where she could practise. Unfortunately, she is unable to be as hands-on with her own grandchildren because of distance. However, she was able to be at the birth of her granddaughter an event she felt privileged to be at.
