This sermon explores the Christian call to labor for the church, drawing primarily from Philemon verses four through seven. It establishes that salvation is by grace through faith, but genuine faith inevitably produces good works directed toward fellow believers. The speaker emphasizes that this labor is rigorous and should increase over time, illustrated by the enduring impact of Philemon's past actions. • Bound To Obedience (BCQ 49)
The Baptist Catechism catechism question 49 teaches us that we are bound to obedience—not by bare force, not by fear of punishment alone, and not by a cold legalism—but because of who God is and what He has done. Authority, covenant relationship, and redemption together create an unbreakable obligation of love and gratitude between God and His people.

  • [08/02/2026 AM] - “Patient Endurance with Joy” - Colossians 1:11-14
AUGUST 2, 2026 MORNING WORSHIP SERVICE Scripture Reading: Colossians 1:1-14 Text: Colossians 1:11-14 Message: "Patient Endurance with Joy" 11 "being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. 13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." Colossians 1:11-14 (ESV) "Patient Endurance with Joy" Colossians 1:1-14; text: 11-14 I. Paul's prayer for the Colossians included that they would have "all endurance and patience with joy" (11b). Those qualities seem contradictory unless: 1) We recognize that God is the source of our strength (11a) 2) We thank Him for our inheritance as believers (12a), recognizing: a) He has qualified us to be heirs (12b, c) through faith in Christ alone (John 1:11-13) b) He has delivered us from the dominion of darkness (13a) c) He has transferred us into the kingdom of His beloved Son (13b), through whom we have redemption (14a) and the forgiveness of sins (14b) II. Our response: A life of prayerful gratitude (3, 9, 12), as we strive to walk "in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God" (10)
