Do you ever look at the life God has given you, and stop in wonder, and gratitude at the grace of God to you? Or do your troubles and reasons for discontentment dominate your thought life? Would you dare say to God that all your blessings are as nothing in comparison to this trial you are facing? That although He's given you so much, you are unable to be happy, or grateful, because you lack this one thing… the resolution of this trial right now? This one little difficulty is enough to steal your joy…Discipline your minds. Discipline your thoughts. Cut off the grumbling. Cut off the murmuring. Memorize Psalm 23. Preach to yourself about the goodness of your shepherd. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

God's law is meant to show you your sin and your need for Christ, not to provide a way for you to earn salvation. Through faith in Christ, you are freed from the law's condemnation and adopted as God's child by grace alone. Yet the law still has an important place in your life: it now guides you in living with gratitude and obedience. Instead of looking to your performance for acceptance, look to Christ—and let God's commands show you how to live as someone He has already redeemed.
