  • GR 5 Bonnie Dye: Every Story has Twists and Turns

Graying Rainbows was conceived as a podcast community where people can share their stories of coming out LGBT+ later in life. Up until now my guests have been authors and other public figures, but website designer Bonnie Dye has graciously agreed to share her personal story as a model for other listeners.

Coming Out is always an ongoing process and this principle is demonstrated by Bonnie's story. You can reach out to Bonnie via Linked In.

This week's guest is Rick Clemons, host of the Life Uncloseted podcast. Rick is a life coach who works with gay men on their coming out journeys. Recently he has expanded his work to include helping people of diverse backgrounds escape from the closets that hold them back.

In this episode Rick reflects on the fact that whenever one starts, the coming out journey never ends. The key is to keep moving forward and to strive to learn and grow along the way.

  • GR 2 Loren A Olson, MD author of "Finally Out: Letting Go of Living Straight"

When I first came at at age 60, one of the first books I read was Loren Olson's book Finally Out: Letting Go of Living Straight. It is a unique combination of personal memoir and guide for men who are coming out later in life. Dr. Olson has been a psychiatrist for over 40 years so he brings a valuable perspective to the conversation.

  • GR 1 Historian Lillian Faderman explores "The Gay Revolution"

Lillian Faderman's comprehensive history The Gay Revolution: The Story of the Struggle takes us from 1948 through the US Supreme Court decision that legalized Gay marriage in 2015. But for the first episode of Graying Rainbows we tried to focus on the events before Stonewall. Post WW2 was a very difficult time to be Gay in America and it is important to remember how far we have come, especially in these frightening times.

The focus of Graying Rainbows will be on sharing resources and storytelling, but I think it is essential that LGBT+ citizens of all ages become more knowledgeable  of our history, so this will be a monthly feature of the show.
