  1. Provide a nurturing work environment that emphasizes flexibility, staff visibility and opportunities to grow.
  • It's about the work you do, not just the work environment. Emphasize meaningful work that aligns with each person's personal development goals.
  • Focus not just on diversity and inclusion, but on equitable decision making.
  • Equity extends to fair assessment of performance. It's not fair to the other staff to gloss over poor work habits or skill gaps. Build in ways to measure growth and learn from failures.
  • Appreciate the small wins and achievements and help your staff see the connection back to their personal goals.
