  • Failure Can Make You Stronger - Make Your Bed Book Study
We are halfway done the GE book study as we are moving through the book “Make Your Bed” and I am finding it extremely rewarding. As I read each chapter, I get little chunks of information that I can apply immediately into my life in areas such as productivity, relationships, overcoming obstacles and there’s much more to come!
    .
Chapter 5 was called Failure Can Make You Stronger and that’s a message that I totally believe in. I think of past experiences in my life when things didn’t come easy to me and I had to learn things the hard way and failure has taught me a lot throughout my life. This could be academically in school, during moments in friendships or relationships, or going after a job and many other things. Some people can be easily motivated by failure, but not everybody is, and some people really don’t respond well to it and they shut down.

  • Encouragement and Timing (#saturdaysessions)
In the busyness of life, in the pursuit of happiness, contentment, and even greatness it is important to stop and just be happy. I find this an interesting balance for me because it can be easy to keep pushing through everything just wanting to do more and not necessarily be conscious of how happy I am. Sometimes I find myself working so hard to make other people happy that maybe my happiness isn’t my priority.
    .
In these moments, I think that it is important to stop and reflect on your purpose and what you want out of your life. One of the things I enjoy most in my life is exercise. It allows me to get a solid workout in, get a sweat on, and let my mind travel through the maze that it is and come out on the other side in a much better spot.

  • Life's Not Fair: Drive On! - Make Your Bed Book Study
You probably won’t understand today's quote unless you’ve been reading along “Make Your Bed” during our first Greatness Everyday book study. In Chapter 4 of the book, Admiral McRaven describes one of his Navy SEALs training “exercises” when he had to wake up early in the morning, run into the ocean, and then roll around until he was covered entirely by sand for the rest of the day. (This is what was called a “sugar cookie”) His lesson in this chapter was that in life there are some things we can’t control, life is sometimes unfair, and you have to get over these obstacles and keep moving forward… (no matter where the sand ends up…) Don’t complain, don’t blame, keep pushing on!

  • It's the Heart That Matters - Make Your Bed Book Study
Chapter 3: Only the Size of your Heart Matters. I’m really enjoying the chapters because they are so practical to our lives, they aren’t long, and once you read the chapter you can start living out the lessons right away! There isn’t any time wondering what the chapter was about, or how it could apply to your life. I think that the earlier we learn this lesson in our lives, the better off we will be! That’s one of the lessons that I try to teach my students.

  • Don't Give Up on the Miracles (#saturdaysessions)
Don’t Give Up on the Miracles! Don’t let whatever is bothering you and whatever seems impossible to you discourage you from your dreams. When your goals aren’t coming easily, when relationships are failing, or anything else DON’T GIVE UP, there is hope!

  • You Can't Do It Alone - Make Your Bed Book Study
Chapter 2: You Can’t Go It Alone of the “Make Your Bed” book study was an awesome read! The chapter begins with Admiral McRaven discussing his NAVY SEALs training during which he and his fellow “tadpoles” had to carry a rubber boat around everywhere they went. In between training exercises, up hills, down hills, and use it in the water, but the best lesson it taught him was that you can’t do it alone and there are times where you need someone else to help you.
    .
Those people can take on many different roles: husband or wife, friend, family member, coworker, etc. but the important part is to recognize that life is supposed to be lived with people in quality relationships. That’s the real gold in life. Be intentional about who you surround yourself with and in turn how you make other people better. You can’t continuously be “taking” but never “giving”. Any type of relationship is supposed to be two-ways in which both people are made better from it, they always believe in each other, and

  • NAVY SEALs Lesson - Make Your Bed Book Study
Last week, we started reading the first chapter of “Make Your Bed” with the point of thinking about little things that we can do that make a big difference in our lives and maybe even the world. Each week I challenge you to read a chapter and start implementing the changes into your life.
I enjoyed reading the first chapter because it gave me a background of who the author is. William H. McRaven is a retired Admiral in the US Navy, who has lived an amazing life and this book was inspired by the people he has met and experiences he has had. Needless to say he has been very successful and wants to share some of his tips to help people achieve MORE, no matter what comes their way in life.
Chapter 1 starts out with McRaven detailing his training for the Navy Seals as a young man. The training is gruelling and tough and a totally different reality than I am used to, that’s for sure! Basically, the whole premise about this chapter is that although life can be hard and we never know what it
