One of the most crucial pieces of any armor is the helmet. It protects the head from otherwise-deadly attacks. The question is, how does salvation protect the Christian and prepare them for battle with Satan?

James is sometimes referred to as the "Proverbs" of the New Testament for its practical wisdom. James encourages us to use God's word like a mirror to see what we really look like and correct the areas where we don't look like we should. James especially dials in on a few areas that many of us struggle with - our emotions and our speech. So, how do we need to practically change to look more like God as we look into his word?

One of the most important pieces of God's armor is the shield of faith. It is the tool that will allow us to fend off all of the attacks that Satan throws our way. So, how does it fit into the picture of the whole armor, and how do we build up the faith that we need to have an impenetrable shield?

In Matthew 18, Jesus's disciples asked him who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Jesus's answer is unexpected because he doesn't name any of them. Instead, between chapters 18 and 19 he answers their question through a series of difficult statements and parables intended to shape their view of what greatness truly looks like in the kingdom of heaven. While none of them were the greatest, what did Jesus tell them it would take for them to be simply great disciples?

In Luke 14, Jesus tells a series of parables of what it takes to be his disciple. Being a disciple isn't just a name. It's an identity that comes with expectations and commitments, so what does it take for us to be Christ's disciples?

Jesus was the master of sharing the gospel. He took the most unlikely and mundane conversations and pivoted them to the spiritual to bring them closer to God. The question is, how did he do it and how can we tell other about God just like Jesus did?

In John 13:34, Jesus gives his disciples a new command: to love one another, as he loved them. For us to be Jesus's disciples, we too have to love like him; by his example in the preceding verses, Jesus teaches us 5 things we have to do to love like him. 

This is the third sermon in Edwin Crozier's "I'm A Disciple" series. Not everyone Jesus called chose to follow him. Some were almost disciples. They almost followed him, but chose to go their own way rather than walking in his footsteps. The rich young ruler was one of these "almost disciples" and his brush with discipleship reveals some ways that we can easily stop walking in Christ's footsteps and instead walk down our own paths.

This is the second Edwin Crozier's, "I'm A Disciple" series. If we believe that God loves us, then we must believe that what God has to tell us is for our own good. Jesus knew this and listened to his father. To be a disciple of Christ, we must learn to learn from God as Christ learned from him.

This is the first in a series of lessons with the theme, "I'm A Disciple." We are all disciples of someone and we should strive to be a disciple of the best to ever live: Jesus. Before a disciple can do anything, a disciple must start with honoring God as Jesus honored his father.
