  • 🪴 Disaster turns everything upside down! (video)
    https://3speak.tv/watch?v=greenthings/jrjcocxe
This plant has been considered to be ***weed*** for as long as I've been alive, but it is treasured by many and even cultivated. **The video the time lapse** which was taken from early morning until the sun went down over a 12 hour period. After the disaster occurred, I set up a time lapse camera in order to capture the plant's reaction to having been potted upside down. It was likely to die, but if it did not, I wanted to see if the leaves would turn back upward and how long it would take for that to happen. The plan was to do this over several days but the camera died on the second day. It is short, but sweet to watch.
Despite that glitch in my plan, I was very surprised to find out that it had moved in a positive direction. Better yet, that had survived at all. I have not planted anything on the top side of this pot as I did in my last post, but I'm sure I will find something suitable to mix roots with this guy.
    ### Here is the back story - How it happened.
Last week, I made a post about a special kind of plant that smells funky. You might remember that one. It was was transplanted into a ceramic pot large enough for it to grow to full size. Many plants wilt and whether when transplanted. The spill was within a week and that likelihood grows if you keep pulling the roots out of the dirt.
Here's one of the pictures of that plant that I did **not** use on my last post, so it's still original.
    ![image.png](https://images.hive.blog/DQmQ5x3vFKGygoQvZftX672X1vQQYnfb1qAPwZ4Fiw4YGqb/image.png)
I mentioned the word **disaster** in the title, so let me get to that part of the story. I was cleaning the terrace, high up on a ladder above the plants, taking down some old vines that grew during the summer and were clearly dead now. When I stepped down from the ladder, my heel hit the edge of that very same ceramic pot, containing a pot plant, and knocked it over. The dirt spilled all over the floor and the plant hit the floor. So here I am, looking at the plant that I had worked so hard to transplant without disturbing the roots and now the roots were actually bare. One project now turns into another more urgent one.
I was forced to stop what I was doing, and try to fix this situation and save the plant. I decided to try an idea I had in my head, which was to plant it upside down and then put another plant top side. I did not take any pictures of that process which I regretted later. Yes this is the first plant to be subjected to the silly space saver idea. If this weed had not survived, you would have never seen [my most recent post](https://hive.blog/hive-140635/@greenthings/diy-grow-doubler-when-up-is-down-and-down-is-up) on how to do it.
I was not sure if the plant would live or die, so this is a perfect opportunity to try this new idea that I had because, you know, the plant might die anyway. Now, my goal is not to make this plant into a tree, but rather, into a Bush that grows downward and turns its sleeves upward toward the sun, hopefully making it more bushy rather than tree like.
I had not taken pictures of the rescue, thus prompting the [potato plant down/radishes up](https://hive.blog/hive-140635/@greenthings/diy-grow-doubler-when-up-is-down-and-down-is-up) post.
Some say that many things are discovered by accident. This was mine. It only existed in my idea box in my head until I nearly killed one of the new plants I had just received. It looks like it may survive but it is still an experiment.

Today is the first rain since replanting it and I will be checked how the water drains up the the stem, rather than down.
Until, next time. I am anxious to post some of my new carnivorous plants which are in desperate need of new, larger pots.

  • Sometimes what you might need is sitting right next to you...
    https://3speak.tv/watch?v=greenthings/oggafefr
This is going to be a short story of how I found this little guy who brighten my day one morning when I turn the pot slowly and saw it was just a heart staring up at me. See a short video.

I am not sure what kind of plant this is. As most of you know, my garden consists of two sectors. One is interesting plants plus vegetables and fruits. And the other is filled with carnivorous plants which gobble up any bugs or mosquitoes that wander into my terrace. These two types of plants cannot be next to each other because normal soil (or splatter from another plant in normal soil) will kill the bug eaters.
This cute little plant, the subject of this post, was originally just two little leaves like you see here sprouting out of the Moss right next to a large drosera plant. I let it be because it wasn't bothering the larger plant.

At first it got a little bit taller and then two more leaves identical to the first two sprouted at the base of the stem. As I said, I have no idea what kind of plant this is and I thought I would let it develop. If I liked it, I would transplant it.

It happened to sprout up in a pot filled with moss which has no fertilizer or nutritional value for any plant. Besides that, the carnivorous plants only get distilled water because minerals destroy them. They die immediately if they have tap water what river water.
If this little guy is a normal plant, it will eventually need the other kind of soil and will get moved to the other sector.

There's one thing about photography that bothers me. If you take a close up shot of something, there will be no context as to how big or small that item is. To add the context, here's a picture of my little heart with my pinky finger in the background.

I had been having a real downer of a day and at the time, this plant was right next to me while I typed away at the computer. I gave it some water, and turned the pot to find that it was nearly a perfect heart depending on what angle you look at it from. The sight of it lifted my spirits and I ended up having a pretty good day. I hope it can do something for your day as well!

The final note: I'm really new to The Hive Garden community. I got a fair amount of interaction with the last post that I made, and I wanted to tell you all thank you. It means a lot to me! My garden is very diverse as I described above. I'm hoping that my carnivorous garden, half of my garden, would be acceptable under the community guidelines. Most of what I post will be about plants that I intentionally wanted to raise. This little post is more about something incidental that happened and ended up brighteningn my day. 🌱

  • Parrots among the green things for today. (Video)

    https://3speak.tv/watch?v=greenthings/jcoicxdz
First day of the year riding at the reserve. I found wild parrots, some ducks that disappear under the water and lots of other waterbirds.

    So peaceful

I offer no narration - just a peaceful early morning view of nature at the edge of the city.

    Enjoy.

  • Carnivorous "unboxing" Including Fly Traps

    New Plant Order

I had planted a bunch of seeds in the fountain but then I got impatient, so I looked at the site where I had purchased my first few insect eaters.

They wanted to avoid traffic so they told me they would send the plants on a motorcycle carrier service. I was worried how these delicate guys would survive a twenty mile journey.

I got a few calls as I was waiting for them to arrive. The owners had been advising me as the plants got closer and closer to the city center. I still thought they were being jostled around on the back of a motorcycle in traffic. That is how it came last time.

I was extremely pleased to see Belen walking toward my door as I waited for a motorcycle. They had driven them here themselves, Eric and Belen, and I did not get to meet Eric because he was a block away making sure the car doesn't get towed.

She brought them in a tray to keep them nice.

So my unboxing was thwarted, but I still wanted to introduce you all to my new bunch that will work diligently with the old bunch to make my garden pest free.

    Thanks for tuning in.
