What it means to “re-dig” historic wells of revival (Gen. 26:18).How honor unlocks inheritance and fresh anointing (Rom. 13:7).Practical ways to bless spiritual fathers and steward their legacy.1) Re-digging the wells / honoring fathers
Re-digging the wells means honoring what God has already done while pursuing what He’s going to do. It’s not shunning or degrading those who carried the mantle, but appreciating that it was God and staying faithful to your part in His story.
2) Abraham–Isaac–Jacob wells (Gen 26)
Isaac re-opened the wells his father Abraham had dug that the Philistines had buried. Re-digging connected him to what God had done so he could enter what God was going to do. The Samaritan woman later drinks at Jacob’s well, showing the continuity of the fathers’ wells.
3) Living-water/Spirit metaphor; body-water tie-in
Water pictures the Spirit: “From your belly will flow living waters.” The “well of God” is within us. The text notes our bodies are largely water to reinforce the water/well imagery pointing to the Spirit’s flow.
4) Contemporary “re-digging” (Birmingham)
There’s present-day talk of “re-digging the wells” in Birmingham, illustrating the same call in our time.
5) Honoring past moves vs shunning them; humility about flawed vessels
We must honor what God has done through flawed vessels, remembering even greats like Elijah were human. This should produce humility—“Here I am, God—I can’t”—so God can use us without pride.
6) MorningStar “honoring fathers”; Generals; Branham anecdote
At a MorningStar conference on honoring fathers and God’s generals (e.g., John G. Lake, Branham), a minister recounted a vision of the angel telling Branham it was time to come home, underscoring both power and human frailty.
7) Value of history/testimony (Bible as record of what God has done)
The Bible records what God has done and prophesies what He will do. Rejecting “history” is like rejecting Scripture’s testimony; remembering past works guards us from drifting.
8) Philistines as flesh/religion that bury wells
“Philistines” picture people acting from flesh, carnality, or religiosity who bury access to living water and oppose what God is doing—often through religious attack.
9) Muddy vs pure water; false teaching; going deep for clean flow
Many drink from muddied wells—mixed by false teaching or leaders in sin. You must dig deeper (pay the cost) to reach pure, drinkable water “that flows from the throne of God,” not settle for runoff.
10) Cost: death to self to carry the move of God
To host what God does requires laying down your life. The real question is whether you’ll pay the price so His life can work in people—choosing His glory over your name.
11) Regional call (Gulf Coast/Pensacola); lighthouse prophecy; 700 ministers; Prayer/Fire Mountain
God established a work in the Gulf Coast/Pensacola region connected to the lighthouse prophecy. Fulfillment involves unity among 700 ministers without strife, envy, or jealousy, and the establishment of Prayer Mountain/Fire Mountain affecting the nation.
12) Specific fathers: Ken Sumrall & John Kilpatrick; Brownsville Revival (Steve Hill)
Two regional fathers are highlighted: Ken Sumrall (now with the Lord) and John Kilpatrick (Brownsville Revival). Honoring them means honoring what God did through them, including Brownsville and Steve Hill’s role.
13) Family of God vs organization; spiritual fathering/sonship; Malachi 4
Church is family, not mere organization. Spiritual fathers/sons and right relationships matter (Malachi—hearts of fathers to children). Jesus redefines family as those who do the Father’s will.
14) Malachi Mandate unity table (church/civic/military/business)
Under the Malachi Mandate, about 70 leaders (government, church, military, law enforcement, business) sat together. Ken Sumrall said he’d never seen such unity—fruit of right relationships and honoring fathers.
15) Warning about dishonor / “spiritual vandalism”
Self-focus and dishonor “vandalize” what God is doing, harming the one Church in a region. Dishonoring those who labored grieves God, who commands us to honor others as family.
16) Word to Ken Sumrall about fatherless ministers; need for right relationships
God broke Ken’s heart for ministers who were fatherless and alone. The remedy is being rightly related—finding or becoming a spiritual father/mother so leaders aren’t isolated or orphaned.
17) Elijah–Elisha lineage; mantle; immediate obedience; Jehu mission; double portion
Elisha immediately responded to God’s call, stayed rightly related to Elijah, and received a double portion. Because of that lineage, Jehu was anointed and empowered for decisive action. Lineage and staying “with” your father brought forward God’s strategy.
18) Church governance as family shaping civil governance
There’s a “governmental lockup” in the natural tied to misaligned church government. When the Church aligns with God’s family-form of government, civil government can shift.
19) Honoring civic leaders (McNesby, Touart); principle of honor
Honoring civic leaders who served well (e.g., during hurricanes) matters. Even if roles change, believers should honor. Failure to honor brings struggle; repentance may be needed.
20) Prophetic word about authority over regional wells; rivers flowing upstream/downstream
A prophetic word declared authority to unplug regional wells so rivers would flow “upstream” to the nation and “downstream” to the nations—signifying broad impact from re-opened wells.
21) Prophetic confirmations (e.g., Jeremiah Johnson; Colorado prophet)
Multiple prophetic voices (e.g., Jeremiah Johnson; a Colorado prophet) confirmed God’s stirring and regional assignments, encouraging perseverance and humility before outpouring.
22) Brownsville community testimony (Gail) rekindling faith
A woman who prayed before the 1995 Brownsville outpouring testified that God told her to believe again for a powerful move. Sharing God’s current leading rekindled her faith “right in the street.”
23) Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well; Jesus’ living water
Jesus met the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well—one of the fathers’ wells—and offered water that ends thirst, tying present encounter to the fathers’ lineage of wells.
24) Persevering through Esek (Dispute), Sitnah (Opposition), to Rehoboth (Room)
Isaac’s first re-dug well was Esek (“Dispute”); the second Sitnah (“Opposition”); the third Rehoboth (“Room”)—“Now the Lord has given us room, and we will flourish in the land.” Don’t quit during dispute/opposition; keep digging until God makes room.
25) Love as the true measure; unity blessing
The real test is love—making it past dispute and opposition. Unity in family brings the “commanded blessing.” Measuring by gifts or outcomes is deceptive; love and right relationship are the gauge.
26) Anticipated “tsunami of glory”; children preaching; great harvest/billion souls
A coming “tsunami” of God’s glory is envisioned—people pulled over weeping, schools in revival, children preaching with power. This ties to words about a massive final harvest and the time being short.
Isaac re-dug the wells of his father Abraham (Gen. 26:18). In the same way, we’re called to honor the fathers who labored before us—receiving their wisdom and continuing their work. Greg shares personal reflections on spiritual lineage, blessing, and why honor is the highway of impartation.
You’ll be stirred to remember, repair, and reopen the “wells” in your region and family—believing God to flow again with mercy, holiness, and power. “Honor…to whom honor is owed” (Rom. 13:7).
