Why God designed us for relationship and family. We were never created to live isolated, disconnected lives. God designed us to know Him and to walk in meaningful relationships with others. Why relationships, trust, and belonging matter more than individual achievement. Research into successful organizations shows that healthy relationships, cooperation, and what researchers call “social capital” can accomplish what a collection of individual superstars cannot. Why the Church must rediscover what it means to be the family of God. When believers merely attend gatherings without truly knowing, loving, supporting, and walking with one another, we can miss an essential part of God’s design for His people. What happens when a culture increasingly trades family, relationship, and belonging for individual achievement, competition, and isolation? And what happens when the Church begins functioning more like an organization than the family of God?
In this episode, Greg Lancaster examines the powerful connection between relationship, belonging, purpose, and hope. Drawing from research on successful teams and the famous “super chicken” experiment, Greg explains why groups built around individual superstars can become unhealthy, while communities characterized by trust, cooperation, helpfulness, and genuine relationships can flourish. The lesson reaches far beyond business. Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches” (John 15:5). God designed His people to live connected to Christ and connected to one another.
Greg then turns to the tragedy of suicide and the devastating consequences that can accompany hopelessness, isolation, loss of meaning, and broken relationships. His message is ultimately one of hope: your life has purpose, God has a future for you, and you were created for relationship with Him and His family. As Psalm 118:17 declares, “I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done.” Rather than accepting isolation as normal, believers can rediscover biblical community, build genuine relationships, encourage one another, and once again experience what it means to be the family of God.
“The world is figuring out what we as the Church have to re-get again, because everybody was created in the image and likeness of God.”
“The goal of this whole thing that God’s created is that He wants family. Ever since the Garden, He wants family. And the reward is family.”
“You’ve got to get where you’re connected. You’ve got to put yourself in there. You’ve got to break off the orphan spirit that would tell you you’re there, but you’re not there, and say, ‘I’ve got the Spirit of adoption on me. I am part of the family of God, and I’m going to participate.’”
“I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done.”
“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”
“I am the vine; you are the branches.”
“And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”
