Welcome to Surrendering the Sword. Part one of this three-part podcast series chronicles the true story of Nobuo Fujita, a former Japanese Navy pilot who, in 1942, became the first and only enemy pilot to bomb the American mainland by fixed-wing aircraft. Fujita made two bombing runs over the southern Oregon coast range. Part two of the series, coming soon, follows Fujita’s controversial visit to Brookings, Oregon, in 1962. Brookings is only eight miles from the bomb site. In part three, we’ll hear the actual recording of a banquet held for the Fujita family during that 1962 visit. At the banquet, Nobuo presented a gift — a peace offering — that stunned the crowd.
