Call Me Tiffany – Tofu n’ the kitchen “The wellness journey”
5 ways to change your poor eating habits
It is important to take the time to identify exactly what you want your result to be. You may want to just lose a few pounds, decrease your sugar or salt intake; or if you are like me, you just want to be overall healthy and well.
the world wide web can be a convenient place to research information regarding healthy eating practices. I found it helpful to gain understanding about my old eating habits. Exposing the harm, you are doing to yourself by not eating well brings realization that motivates you to want and do better. I would suggest writing down everything you consume for a few days and then calculating the daily calorie intake a well as notating the nutritional values of what you consumed.
3. Take your time with the grocery list
you should have a general idea of the dishes you will be preparing prior to doing your shopping. Never shop blindly! Blind shopping can be both expensive and dangerous. I found it helpful to do my shopping online and have my items delivered. For me, this took a while because I had been used to just grabbing items that were quick to prepare. The very first list took hours, however, this was strictly because I had truly disconnected myself from the kitchen and most of my cooking was done in a bag, microwave or by someone else’s kitchen. It’s okay to take your time, explore recipes & understand the nutritional value of what you are eating prior to purchasing. I became satisfied with my grocery list by the 4th order, now it takes me less than 5 minutes to do my grocery shopping – all I must do is click purchase and wait for the delivery!
4. Experiment in the kitchen
That’s right! We all know that things that are good for you are not as tasty as those that are not so good for you. It is best to find the best way to consume these foods that will encourage you to eat them. For example, I consume Kale and spinach at least four times a week. However, I have never eaten kale with a fork, in fact, I have never cooked it period. I use Kale as the main ingredient of my green smoothie and I use spinach in my omelets, quesadillas, pasta and as a base in my salads.
Breaking a habit is tough, however, you must be determined to replace the bad with the good. For the first few weeks you may notice that your stomach may growl and yell at you…a lot. It is okay, do not break. During this withdrawal period feed your cravings with one of your new healthy choices. I was able to curb my cravings with salad. Eventually, my body stopped yearning for things it once had and became satisfied with what it was getting
