  • grief support group #10 💌 on toxic friends, growing up with Sex and the City, and bows meaning business

Welcome to the 💌💗GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP🪩🍒‼️. This is my radio show on KSFS Radio at San Francisco State where I talk all things pop culture, my research on grief and media, and answer your advice questions.

Happy birthday to my mom! This week I discuss the impact Sex and the City and other women-centered stories had on me, why Love Island made me delete Instagram, and answer the following advice questions:

★ Recently discovered some friends or even situationships were actually undercover ops and moving in ways where they were jealous of me and rooting for my downfall. How do I avoid these people in the future especially when they seem nice and a real friend at first?

★ Do you believe in being friends with exes? Is it actually healthier or not worth it? This ex I have to see pretty regularly because of work and while I’d rather just be no contact completely, I can’t be.

  • grief support group #9 💌 on the portrayal of grief on Survivor and my arch nemesis theory

Welcome to the 💌💗GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP🪩🍒‼️. This is my radio show on KSFS Radio at San Francisco State where I talk all things pop culture, my research on grief and media, and answer your advice questions.

This week I discuss grieving (and healing?) during the holidays, the portrayal of grief on Survivor, and answer the following advice questions:

★ How do you tell your classmates they are not a vibe when you’re stuck with them for the next 2 years??

★ My partner went through something traumatic and since then he has been very distant from me. I have offered to help him but he barely speaks to me and he seems extremely guilty. I don’t know if it’s him that doesn’t want to be around me or his family doesn’t want him around me. I am sad. Please help. I miss his cat.

  • grief support group #8 💌 on dating a bad texter and honoring loved ones in everyday life

Welcome to the 💌💗GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP🪩🍒‼️. This is my radio show on KSFS Radio at San Francisco State where I talk all things pop culture, my research on grief and media, and answer your advice questions.

This week I discuss defending my thesis proposal and the griefy teen dramas that got me here, applying for PhD programs, and answer the following advice questions:

★ How to not be annoyed with slow texters when communication and vibes are good in person and on the phone with somebody I’m dating ?

★ Sometimes it feels weird to just “move on” with my life after losing my grandparents. They raised me as much as my own parents did (lived with me my whole lives). I know living my life is what they would’ve wanted but I want to honor them more often in my day to day life. Any suggestions?

  • grief support group #6 💌 on seeking closure in romance and navigating friendships in a cross-country move

Welcome to the 💌💗GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP🪩🍒‼️. This is my radio show on KSFS Radio at San Francisco State where I talk all things pop culture, my research on grief and media, and answer your advice questions.

This week I discuss taking my honeymoon in Italia (finally!!), the new Colleen Hoover book-to-film adaptation called Regretting You and why it sucks at representing grief, and answer the following advice questions:

★ How do you let go of a romantic relationship you know won’t ever work?

★ I’m moving across the country and am struggling with what feels like grieving the inevitable friends and people in my life being either in my life less or not at all. Some of these people are truly the best I’ve ever known and while I know phone calls/text/FaceTime can help, I can’t help feeling like I’m losing people that I love. Thoughts/advice?

  • grief support group #5 💌 on being friends with exes, missing my mom, and navigating friendship after parental loss

Welcome to the 💌💗GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP🪩🍒‼️. This is my radio show on KSFS Radio at San Francisco State where I talk all things pop culture, my research on grief and media, and answer your advice questions.

This week I discuss missing my mom, the concept of being friends with exes, earnestly dating, and answer the following advice questions:

★ Can you please give advice on how to navigate this situation with my friend? I am at a loss of what to do at this point. My dad died 10 months ago, and it was really unexpected. During the week after he died, I had a friend offer to bring over dinner. Her dad had passed the year prior and I was grateful to have someone to lean on who gets it, especially because most of my close friends/family aren’t nearby. She ended up saying there was too much traffic and said I should come over to her house the next week (which I absolutely did not have the energy to do). I was so deep in my grief (and just shock) at that time that I didn’t realize how hurtful it was until I had a moment to process it later. I thought maybe it was too much for her but she has historically only done what was convenient for her in our friendship. She started to randomly text me - a hug and heart emoji on Father’s Day and “just wanted to say I’m thinking of you” texts every few months. She text me “thinking of you” again this week but she’s never asked how I’m doing beyond these texts. I don’t know what to do at this point because it just feels so surface level. Would love your advice!

★ How do I help my friend who really self sabotages themself. They are going through a tough time 24/7 it seems and I feel as though I’m watching them hurt themselves (ex: self deprecating comments, substance abuse, no impulse control).

  • grief support group #4 💌 on situationships, Saturn returns, and death anniversaries

Welcome to the 💌💗GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP🪩🍒‼️. This is my radio show on KSFS Radio at San Francisco State where I talk all things pop culture, my research on grief and media, and answer your advice questions.

This week I discuss my Saturn return (help LMAO), the importance of telling stories about grief in media, and answer the following advice questions:

★ How do you react to past situationships trying to slide back into your life after being on and off for a year? Our latest no contact was a month. This feels like disrespect when they keep trying to spin the block on me.

★ We’re coming up on the 1 year anniversary of my Abuelita’s passing. My mom has started to go through her belongings to clean out her space but it has been a tough and emotional process for her as she finds candy/little trinkets in her pockets and even remnants of her hair that were left on her sweaters. She also feels as though she’s giving up a piece of her by doing this and that my Abuelita would be upset at her for cleaning out her belongings. What advice do you have for someone who is starting to clean out their loved one’s belongings after their passing and feelings of guilt start to rise throughout the process?

Welcome to the 💌💗GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP🪩🍒‼️. This is my radio show on KSFS Radio at San Francisco State where I talk all things pop culture, my research on grief and media, and answer your advice questions.

This week I discuss seeing images in your mind (which I can’t btw), discuss the latest on my thesis exploring grief in teen television fandoms, talk Desperate Housewives and how it portrays death, and answer the following advice questions:

★ How do I get my partner to communicate with me better? He lied to me about moving out and told me three days after because he thought I would be mad. I’m unsure why he’d think that as I told him I would’ve celebrated this moment which we did after the fact but I am still sad he didn’t feel like he could open up to me.
