A year on from the death of my father-in-law I reflect on why it is so challenging.

But why is grief so triggering even a year on?

And how do we work through those feelings that do come up on anniversaries?


Here are my tips on how to do the things to help us move through our grief:


Journaling

  • Asking friends if you can vent
  • Asking for support from your network
  • Crying it out
  • Eat a cake? (Maybe not the healthiest way!)

But healing and ‘doing the work’ is actually sitting in the pain. We can’t avoid it.

So my three ‘top tips’

  1. Acknowledge how you feel without judgement
  2. Do what you need to do – with limitations, do what’s helpful not harmful
  3. Curating my life so it is inspiring – we decide what we are consuming remembering you are what you consume.
