I wonder if Freddy is good in the kitchen? I mean, he can probably chop veggies with the best, but I don't think he wants to be anywhere near the oven...
Freddy Krueger is one of the most famous slashers of all time. Why are we drawn to these types of villains? Is it because he's funny? Is it because we are no longer teenagers and wonton sex is punishable by death in a slasher film? Not sure, but in this episode we wanted to lighten up a bit and discuss a movie that was genuinely terrifying back in the day, but these days is seen as more of an interesting relic. Freddy just isn't scary anymore. Or is he?
If video is more your thing, never fear! We have a YouTube Channel, where Nick will be uploading each episode (As well as bonus material) in video format. Disclaimer: It should be obvious from the title of the podcast and the material we are choosing to discuss that this podcast is not for the light of heart. Even when dealing with fiction/mythology, there is always a kernel of truth to the horror. In this podcast, we seek out those bits of truth in an effort to juxtapose it against why fictional media is so disturbing in many cases. In this episode, we will talk about body horror, psychological trauma, the death of teenagers, dream studies, the psychology of killers, true life incidents that inspired Freddy, and other themes brought up by the media in question. We attempt to approach each topic with the sensitivity it deserves, but for some people it might be still be unpleasant to listen to. You've been warned.

Still a better love story than Twilight.
In episode two, we tackle a movie that is a paradox of sorts. Critically disliked, Hereditary is a singularly scary movie. But why? Is it the naked people? Decapitation by way of piano wire? The real life use of demonology? Well, at Macabre Masters, we have to know. We watched it and researched it, and now this movie has to live in your nightmares as well.

Welcome to Macabre Masters!
For the first episode, we got into the often imitated but never innovated movie The Ring, which Noah and Nick hadn't seen for years, and Pope had never seen. Along the way, we discuss the difference between Japanese and American media, the original source material (Japanese book/ film Ringu), the legacy of the movie and the themes, shoot some holes in the plot, and look into some of the macabre machinations that didn't quite make the cut for this American translation of a hit Japanese property. Stay tuned for next week, as well, where we go into one of the most obscenely terrifying movies of the modern age, Hereditary. We seriously recorded it last night, and even recording it was creepy.
If video is more your thing, never fear! We have a YouTube Channel, where Nick will be uploading each episode (As well as bonus material) in video format. In these videos (Barring the first one, which was finished before we got this awesome idea) you'll see us chatting about the topic in question, as well as see the scenes we are referencing.
