  • Episode 37 - Essentialism and saying "no" to things when they don't fit who you're working to become
What's essential in your life? It's time to ask some tough questions – the kind that will unlock your potential and greatness!

In this episode, we explore some of the insights from the book Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown. As we discuss, life is full of tradeoffs, and saying "yes" to everything is a losing strategy. Instead, we need to quit straddling, set some guardrails for ourselves, and get focused on the essential few rather than the trivial and mediocre many.

What's your mission in life? Once you define that, you can start setting up some criteria to guide when you say "yes" and "no" in life. Being able to prioritize and filter all life's opportunities is the key to creating the life you want and achieving high performance.

  • Episode 36 - The Bushido Code, your personal code of conduct, and defining your non-negotiables
What guides how you show up each day?

In today’s conversation, we’re diving into the Bushido Code, the warrior principles that defined Samurai culture. Ben Durbin, a guest on Episode 35, introduced us to the connection between the Samurai and mindfulness. Exploring that more after our conversation with Ben, we came across the Bushido Code. Specifically, the Samurai warrior was called to live a life focused on eight virtues:
    • Justice
    • Courage
    • Compassion/Mercy
    • Respect
    • Honesty/Integrity
    • Honor
    • Loyalty
    • Self-Control

In this episode, we explore those virtues and talk about developing our own code of conduct, the guiding principles that define how we carry ourselves. We also talk about defining our non-negotiables, those things that we will hold fast to no matter what.
