Jesus was full of truth and full of grace, and in His life He showed us the power of the two together. While truth without grace leads to condemnation and grace without truth leads to chaos, truth and grace together lead to life. Truth and grace is God’s posture towards us, and it’s how He calls His followers to posture themselves towards others.

looking at the life of Jesus... the best example we have on what it looks
like to live a human life in the way God intended... and we’re learning
about Jesus... so that we can live more like him. We’re about to hit a

In the life of Jesus we see clearly that, in the midst of the miraculous, people felt that He genuinely cared for them. Jesus showed compassion to the sick, the hungry, and the hurting, and yet beyond any day-to-day needs, Jesus was most deeply compassionate towards those who were lost spiritually. Today Jesus now invites His followers to share and show the same compassion that He has for the lost, but if we’re honest, it can sometimes be difficult for us to feel compassion, let alone show compassion. So as followers of Jesus, how do we become more compassionate for those who are lost and need to know Him?

Have you every thought about what it would have been like to walk with
Jesus? I mean literally... walk from town to town with Jesus... one foot in
front of the other... to chat about your plans for the day over
breakfast... just the regular mundane things of everyday life.... Being
sweaty and dirty and tired after a long days journey... jumping in the river
to cool off... building a fire to keep you warm at night... laughing
together... crying together... what would it have been like to be a disciple
of Jesus?

Over the next year we are going to begin to learn some spiritual practices, some habits that will help us to create more space in our lives for the Holy Spirit to work… to make a shift to a more abundant, sustainable life. Now the thing about a journey is it consists of learning, failing, getting better, starting over and trying again but in our case it's not a journey you have to take alone.

At the heart of the Christmas story is the good news that, in Jesus, God came near, so that we could come home. As an adult, Jesus was often found teaching, and he often taught in parables; stories communicating deeper truths about reality. In perhaps His most famous parable, Jesus tells the story of two sons and their father. In it, we learn of the Father’s love for His children, and His longing for them to finally come home to the place they were created to be. Can you find yourself in this story? Where? And what will it mean for you, this Christmas?
